  • Juicing

I'm headed to Bed, Bath, and Beyond after I pick DD up from school and drop her off at her next activity. Once I have it, I'm ordering my veggies online (DS's preschool has an awesome service where I can order them online and pick them up from his school), and I'll be starting Thursday morning. I'm jumping right into the juicing. Because I have been doing WW for the past few weeks, my diet has been fairly veggie/fruit dominant already. DH is going to think I've lost my mind!

We have a Breville Juice Fountain, and it is bomb.
We purchase our fruits/veggies every 3-4 days at the local farmer's market, and it's been really nice.

Let us know how it goes! I've been considering it but am put off by having to buy another large piece of equipment that I"ll probably use for 2 days and quit, lol.

Here's the direct link to the 3 day juice cleanse I mentioned in the rave thread: http://www.fitmomsfitkidsclub.com/20...eanse-recipes/

I just watched "Fat, Sick & nearly Dead," because someone recommended it on here. After that I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest juicer they had. It was around $30 and works pretty well. The chute is a little small so I have to cut things into smaller pieces to fit. Other than that I found the recipes they do in the movie online and went from there. It's not cheap to juice but I like it.

Here is the link to the recipes I've been using. Link I do feel I have more energy after just one drink.

Those recipes look good too. I'll have to try them.

BTW sending you my best wishes Deebs on what you hope to achieve by juicing.

My sister is into Juice Plus...it's a capsule that "is not a vitamin, but a fruit and vegetable supplement" or something. Sounds like a vitamin to me, but she swears by it.

Michele - my DH's grandma takes that. She is 98 (although she was teaching aerobics until about 10 years ago and eats only a "taste" of anything sweet). I'm thinking her age is due to other things - she started taking the Juice Plus about a year or so ago because she just couldn't jump out of bed in the morning...for some reason. When she takes it she says, "okay, I need to have a little fruit and veggie snack now."

Wow. So not what I thought this thread would be about when I read the title. I figure that some ballplayer had figured out a new way to take performance enhancing "herbs."

Part of me wants to get the Big Boss, maybe because it's called the Big Boss, but it's only $63.
Someone wrote a review comparing it to the Breville. Might just start out with the Big Boss for now:
                      http://www.amazon.com/Big-Boss-Juice...959102&sr=8-11

To see my video review and comparison of this Big Boss Juicer and the Breville search YouTube for "djeror juicer comparison"
                      Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6QpA_i38r0

My wife and I saw the movie Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and decided to do a juice fast. I just started my own company a year ago so funds are limited and needed to spend as little as possible while still getting a good juicer that met our needs. Because we were going to be juicing a LOT it was important to me to get a juicer with more than one speed so we could extract the most amount of juice from both hard and soft fruits and vegetables. After reading various reviews online and comparing I ended up ordering the Big Boss. While waiting for it to arrive my wife and I borrowed a friend's Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor. After using both for a few weeks here's my thoughts on the Big Boss and how it compares.

                      Big Boss Pros:
                      - It's cheap. You can buy like 5 Big Boss Juicers for the price of one of the Breville Juice Fountain Elites.
                      - It extracts almost the same amount of Juice as the Breville from both soft and hard fruits and veggies.
                      - It actually tends to filter out small particles better than the Breville creating a smoother juice.
                      - Suction Cup feet hold it in place pretty good and keep it from "walking away" like the Breville can if it gets unbalanced while running.
                      - Powerful motor

                      Big Boss Cons:
                      - Most everything is plastic. That's fine for the parts that don't move. The plastic parts that concern me are 3 little plastic nubs on springs in the gear on the motor that drives the spinning grater/filter part.
                      - It's pretty loud. Typically louder than the Breville except when the Breville gets off balance and starts "walking" across the counter.
                      - Support. The machine didn't even come with a number to call if you had a problem. They want to sell you the juicer and never hear from you again.

                      Breville Juice Fountain Elite Pros:
                      - Built like a tank. This thing is built to last.
                      - Good reputation for customer support. If it breaks or you need parts Breville will help you.
                      - Quieter compared to Big Boss, unless it's off balance and vibrating.
                      - You'll be considered one of the elite juice people of the world.
                      - Makes a hair more juice than the Big Boss when using the same amount of fruits and veggies.

                      Breville Juice Fountain Elite Cons:
                      - No suction feet. It can vibrate and "walk"
                      - Expensive. 5X the price of the Big Boss.
                      - Doesn't filter pulp and particles as well as the Big Boss

Overall because of my limited budget I'm happy I went with the Big Boss. Getting the Breville would have been quite a stretch on our budget. One complaint I've read in other reviews is people saying that the Big Boss is messy and they got juice all over. I've never once had that problem. Rather than trying to aim the juice coming out into a short little glass find a bigger container that is tall and has a large mouth to catch the juice. Then just pour it into your glass after finishing. The Breville comes with a pitcher to catch the juice. But for the big boss I just used a plastic popcorn dish we got at the dollar store.

To see both of the juicers in action and to get a hands on look at both of them check out the video comparison review I made. Just search on YouTube for "djeror Juicer Comparison"

I went to BB&B. They're sold out of all Brevilles, but the woman there told me that they are awesome, and do not get returned frequently from dissatisfied customers. She said that Breville is having issues keeping up with demand (probably because of this documentary, I'm thinking). So, I came home, got on Amazon, and ordered the $200 one. I'll be honest - I think it's expensive, but then I looked at our recent purchases and realized DH just spent $100 on costumes for a dinner-dance. My weight loss and health is worth twice that, right (see, I do have a passive-aggressive side that comes out on occasion, I guess)? I ordered the veggies that go along with the 3 day fast from fitmomfitkidsclub. I think what I'm going to do is follow her plan for 3 days, and go from there (I'm thinking I may lose some motivation or get bored after 3 days, but if I take that approach, I can start varying up my juices after day 3 to keep things exciting). That's where I'm at!

We have the $100 one. There's no way I'd spend $300. Yikes!
