Ooh, I'm jealous! When I joined my current gym, I did so because I wanted to be able to do strength training regularly, and to move into more freeweights vs. fewer circuit machines in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Um, yeah. Not so much. The crazy gym owner jumped on me 3-4 times for misusing her equipment ("Didn't you see the sign? You aren't supposed to push the stop button on this treadmill, you have to just pull the emergency tab!") or not working out hard enough ("You're young, you should row faster/use heavier weights!"). Then she gave me a 5-minute reaming out for tracking dirt into the gym. It was humiliating and infuriating and I have been back maybe 3 times since then. I have an 18 month contract that I refuse to waste, so when the kids go back to school I'm going to start going regularly again, but I'm dreading it. Maybe I'll ask DH for an iPod shuffle (he ran his through the washing machine so he took mine a few months ago) for my birthday, so I can plug in some earbuds and ignore her as best I can.

Anyway, point is, gym nazis suck and I don't understand how they don't grasp that driving away business isn't good for business.

          • Awesome, LSW! I'm so happy that you got such a good deal and can stick it to the Pilates bitches. I hit up 2 yoga classes this weekend to try out local studios, and I think I've found a winner. They have 2 locations nearby, one busier with more classes, and one smaller with fewer classes, so I have some schedule options. And they are HOT HOT HOT! I think today's class was 95-100. I've gotten so off the yoga wagon that it was pretty brutal. I did surprise myself by not having to go down on my knees to do the chaturangas, but I had to take a little time out during some balancing poses when my heart started really hammering. I really need to stick with this. It was exactly 4 years ago that I was at my lean, toned, yoga-addicted fittest, and I really want to get that feeling back. Today, at least I found a couple muscles still hidden under those soft abs!

            • LSW, what a great deal! And MsSassy, you're already on your way back...doing regular chaturangas especially in heat is quite a feat! (Sorry, just pulled a Seuss).

                  • That's awesome LSW!

I'm currently incorporating kettlebell swings and lifts in my workout routines; it's a great way to build core muscles, but there's this fantastic workout called Insanity with Shaun T. (beautiful, beautiful black man, lol!) It's ridiculously hard, but I've lost 20 lbs in two months with this workout. Then I gained it all back when I started dating my SO.

I hate how men lose weight so quickly.

Have you tried the WOD shop? It has a workout generator based on whatever equipment you have on hand. They also have videos with multiple people showing the moves (and variations) if you're unfamiliar with the terminology/jargon. It's a pretty damn good resource.

                              • Been hopping on and off the wagon...but back on (for today anyway)...

Got the Jawbone bracelet and am very entertained tracking my sleep and movement...I love that you can set it to vibrate when you've been sedentary too long!

Plus -- while I already knew this, it's still fun -- when it comes to sleep, I am a Viking! My deep sleep time is 2-3x what DH's is an I apparently drop right into deep sleep!

Been hanging out at the same weight but I'm hopeful I can be a little more conscientious and start losing again! Right now I'm down 24lbs since Christmas, but I'd like to lose 28 more (in a perfect world)...
