Oh no! I have a way to go to get to mine but I think it's a realistic weight, most importantly attainable and possible to maintain. I think we set ourselves up got failure when we aim for a weight too low.

    • I'm frustrated. I've been gaining and losing the same 5 pounds since N was 5 months old. Now I'm doing weight watchers AGAIN and still no progress. Granted, a few weeks I've eaten all my "extra" points, but I've also started working out. And by working out I mean 5-6 days a week with legit calorie burners--Zumba, running, Jillian Michaels DVDs. I'll have a few good days and watch the scale go down 1-2 lbs and then right back up. I've also been doing serious yard work and staining a fence for goodness sake. 4 days out of the week I am relatively inactive outside of exercise, but the other 3 days and the evenings, I run around like a crazy person.

Before N, this would have been enough to really make a difference. Now it seems like it doesn't make a darn difference at all...my body does the same thing when I'm not even trying, so I start losing the motivation to watch what I eat and work my ass off. The only thing I can think of is N is still nursing a little bit...some days not at all, other days 2-4 times for 5 minutes total. It isn't much, but could it be enough to cause this rut?

And don't give me the bit about inches not pounds, because my clothes aren't fitting better. Or they will for 1-2 days if I really really limit myself and I can have one "bad" meal that is still within the points and it all goes to hell. One meal.

      • Well apparently I'm about 5 lbs below my "happy weight" - but I can tell you, my happy weight looks a bit chubby on me. I'm just feeling horribly out of shape - I just spent the weekend in the mountains with my distance-cycling brother and his triathlete girlfriend, who must be around 5'10" and a size 2. Since I live at sea level and I'm a lazyass, I was practically gasping for breath after a short walk. I need to make a change.

        • I'm 11 lbs above my "happy weight" but I've set my goal 10 lbs beneath it. So... the calculator cheered ME up. Maybe I'll only lose 11 more lbs! I do think I'd be plenty happy at that weight.

I'm feeling pretty good about myself these days. I have much more to lose to be "thin" but I'm healthy and I'm in good shape. I feel strong and my clothes fit well - even loosely. I'm down to losing 1 lb a week or so, sometimes none, then maybe 2 the next week. It's hard to stay motivated. I took a calorie break and went up to "maintenance" for a few weeks, and that really helped me. I was able to recommit recently and I feel much stronger in the face of temptation. We'll see how long that lasts!! I'll probably be starving and whining again by May.

For me, I'm think what's working is oscillating between full on "dieting" and eating healthy but normally for a few weeks. I don't lose without major restrictions. That's just me. But I can't maintain those restrictions for more that a month without becoming a psycho. So, I'm trying this on again off again strategy.

Exercise has become a huge staple though - I feel untethered if I skip class too often. I try to go 4-5 times a week. I think if I got injured and couldn't work out, I'd easily gain back weight. Hope that doesn't happen!!!!!

          • According to LoseIt I've lost 75 pounds. Granted that included pregnancy weight, but it's crazy now to think I once carried around 75 extra pounds. And at the end of K's pregnancy I was 85 pounds heavier than I am now.

            Damn. The app really works!

            • ST it sounds more like water weight fluctuation to me. And bloating is what is making your clothes not fit and the scale go up. Are you drinking enough water? Eating too much salt? Also could just be hormonal still.

                • +1 to the allergy. Lactose does that to me - and worse. I haven't ever felt "bloated" since I gave it up 7 years ago. Before that, always. YMMV.

                  • You know, I've cut out cheese because of calories and I've noticed a big difference in bloating. I still have a tablespoon or two of milk in my scrambled eggs but that's it. I can eat pasta and not have a problem so gluten really isn't an issue for me. I'm not ready to give up pizza, but cutting back on dairy has been good for me.

                    • ST - Don't forget that muscle is far more dense than fat. You could be very easily losing fat and gaining some muscle, which wouldn't show on the scale.

Are you noticing a difference in how you feel or how your clothes fit?

                      • No difference in clothes. Could be salt. I'm cutting out diet drinks this week. And weaning. Poor N is devastated when I say no. But I don't really miss the barracuda attacks.

                        • If you are weaning, then I would expect that some of is is hormone related, even if she wasn't nursing a lot.

                          • Try to stick with water only as your beverage of choice for about three weeks and see how you do.

Word. This makes an INSANE difference for me.

How much time do you give yourself before you lose motivation? I ask because after baby #2 it took me a full month+ of perfect eating and exercising before the scale would budge. It was frustrating as hell and I even gained some weight during that time. However, after that month of suck the weight has been slowly but consistently coming off. It was like my body needed an extended period of time before it would accept that I was serious and cry uncle. It was so discouraging and I had to stop weighing myself in order to stay motivated.
