• Weighing weekly has helped me. The daily ups and downs messed with my head. It helps to see a weekly decrease, even if it is half a lb

• What would you think about working with a nutritionist/RD, @MAPPLEBAUM? I know you're super busy so it may be tough to fit in, but perhaps a professional could help?

• It makes me so, so uncomfortable when people comment on my weight, even "positive" remarks like "have you lost weight" or "you look skinny." Because A) like with you, I might not in fact have lost weight. I usually have to stop and think when I've seen this person last; I mean, I'm lighter than two years ago but heavier than last summer but quite a bit heavier than four years ago when I was having a breakdown and not eating? I end up responding with a "thanks," or a "I am not sure?" and it's just awkward. And B) if you are noticing my slimness, does that mean you noticed my plumpness when I was rounder? Are you also noticing my hair style? My lack of makeup? My unfashionable shoes?

I don't know. I just like to tell people I am really happy to see them and call it good.

(Also, MB, you know I like to harp on heart health because it's such a factor in my own family history and because heart disease is such a major killer of women. Ketosis is absolutely horrible for your heart. Is it really worth it?)

• I'm going to be a bit off of my training schedule this week, thanks to spending about 10 hours in the car yesterday instead of "cross-training". So I went for an hour bike ride with hubby today instead of my 3 mile run, and I think I'll stay on schedule the rest of the week except I might switch my long run to Friday.

• I met with my trainer today, and I did back and core. I think I won't be able to get out of bed in the morning.

• Yoga was nice yesterday -- I'm attending a BodyPump class this afternoon (not sure what to really expect).

No way, me too!!! I have BodyPump at noon for the very first time. No clue, but the description sounded good.

There's no Orange Theory here, which I'm super bummed about. I loved it and am floundering a bit now. I'm hoping the gym with childcare (hallelujah) will help.

• My schedule calls for a tempo run, they say 30 minutes total with a slow build to 10k pace in the second third; but I'm thinking 1/2 mile warmup, get up to tempo pace and hold for 20 minutes, then cool down.

(Edit: did exactly that, kept my HR above 165 for 20 minutes…attempted a Strava segment in the middle of it, but I was holding back since I knew I'd need to keep up the effort after the segment was over, so I was 13 seconds off of my PR. Ah, well. Best time this year, anyway!)

I just changed up my old routine too, and am loving the free childcare at the gym. It's a game changer, no doubt.

My old college roommate teaches BodyPump. It sounded intense in a good way!

Bittersweet--I have seriously mulled the idea of starting an OrangeTheory up near my parents here in Texas. There is not one nearby and it is filled with the type of people that would love it. Alas, the whole "being in residency" thing is a bit of an obstacle, but if we were in a different place in life, I would seriously consider doing it.

That's funny you say that, we've been talking about doing the same here. Alas the $200,000 liquid asset franchise requirement (I think that was it???) is a bit of a barrier, haha.
Thirteen I'm dying to know what you think of BodyPump. I felt lost, oh 50% of the time. I'm not sure I love the pace especially since I'm sure my lifting technique sucks. It will probably be better once I figure out what amount of weight to use when. I'm going to be sore big time.

• An appointment ran late, so I went to yoga again today instead.
Tomorrow is core work and then body combat.

• I loved BodyPump and did it for over a year a few years ago. Once you get the feel.for how much weight you can move, it's a neat format.

• I did hydrostatic body testing last night--it was cool. The company that does it comes to my gym in a truck every 8 weeks. They weigh you dry and then you get in this metal tank filled with water and they weigh you wet. The idea is to determine body fat percentage. From there, the give you your resting metabolic rate (RMR) and expected calorie expenditure and other data to help determine how much to eat in order to lose weight and what a goal weight should be.

The biggest takeaways for me:

--Confirmed my eating plan is pretty much in line what I should be doing based on my RMR. If anything, I might need to eat a little more on heavy exercise days

--Gave me a more accurate body fat %. My scale at home says 39%, but it's old and can vary a lot. They put me at just under 35%

--Identified a goal weight based on my body composition. This is what I really like. Apparently I have more muscle mass than average for a woman my age/height (yay!) so if you add what an appropriate amount of body fat (there is a range--I'm shooting for 20%) to my lean mass, my "ideal" weight would be about 150. My current goal is 160, so 150 sounds pretty reasonable. Knowing my very fit 18 year old sister is 160 lbs gave me a hint that 130 or 140 was probably not a good goal. At 5' 7" I'm relatively tall and I've never been a "petite" person, but it is nice to have it confirmed that I can still be in an ideal range at 150.

Pricing was $49/session or $80 for 2. I plan to go back in 16 weeks so I paid for two. I thought it was worth it!

ETA: Here is the website--they have a macros calculator some of you might find interesting

• Core work and Body Combat were great today! Whew!
I told DS1 I was kicking and punching today in class, like a superhero. He said I would make a good superhero. 😆
Considering signing up for a package of sessions with a personal trainer - I really want someone to guide me with lifting.
