It's that time of year again! I'm starting the king cakes tonight and mixing up the beignet dough to refrigerate til tomorrow. Some of my family is coming over for Jambalaya, Beignets, King Cake, and Hurricanes.

My king cake list is getting kind of crazy. I used to always make one for work, and I'm having lunch with my coworkers on Tuesday, so I was thinking of bringing one. Last year, DH brought one to conference and it was a hit, so he asked me to make one again. I was thinking of making mini ones for the kids' preschool classes...and of course one for our family.

There are some really legit recipes in this thread--check them out!

We actually go to New Orleans on Thursday, hopefully all of the crazy will be over by then. 😳😋

Thanks for bumping this thread! I want to make one this year. Around here it's fastnachts or hot cross buns, which are not nearly as fun.

I'll still make pancakes though. That's the traditional Irish meal for Shrove Tuesday.

I'm super impressed! I had an incident with flour and the ceiling when we first got married so Sam has taken over all things that involve flour. I wonder if we could make a gluten free king cake!

If you find a recipe that holds together let me know.
There's a GF bakery in Metairie that makes them, and beignets. *yum!*

              Which one?

I think we need to get one more king cake before Tuesday. We've been good and actually have only bought 3 this year - 2 were new ones that we wanted to try, and 1 was a small favorite that we got for the family when they were in town. Fortunately we have easy access to about a million delicious ones around town.

Oh - by the way, the easiest way to make beignets is with biscuit dough. Buy a can from the store, break apart the biscuits, cut each in quarters, and fry those. Coat in powdered sugar. Enjoy!

The beignets I had were from PeaceBaker (now closed). The internet says the company Girls Gone Vegan, which is sold at the Green Fork, is on point.

Luckily we have Sassagoula 3 miles away for all my GF beignet needs. 😅😇

So yummy.... I was so tempted to purchase one on Monday at the grocery store. Man, those things are good! I’d gain 12lbs just by putting it in my car... so glad I didn’t do it! (I would literally eat the whole thing - and it was HUGE!). That gumbo looks amazing too!!!!
