Today my youngest had a massive meltdown because he found out that 5 minutes (out of the total 30) of his daily reading homework needed to be done aloud. Great.
Language disorder: 1
Freaked-out kiddo: 0
Today I decided that if my oldest doesn't give two shits about finding out what she needs to do to get school pics, then I don't care, either. Seriously, how hard is it for an almost 17 y/o to lean over and ask a friend what the procedure in the new school is for pics?
Is it really only still September?

Today, I had a shocking vet visit with our sweet, 3-year-old, rescued Beagle: an x-ray revealed thirty-five pieces of birdshot in his leg/hip/backside!!!! We've only had him for 3 months and didn't know anything about his history, other than he'd been found wandering the streets with another Beagle, and was brought to the humane society. So we assumed he had been a hunting dog... but to find out that he had been SHOT is so heartbreaking. The poor dog. I wish he could talk, and tell us his stories. Now we're probably going to spoil him rotten because we feel so bad for him. Our little love bug... with at least 3 dozen little BULLETS in him... unbelievable.

He does limp when he runs or goes up and down stairs. That's why we brought him to the vet today, thinking maybe he had Lyme disease or a torn ligament or something. We were so wrong! We're waiting for a call back from the vet, re: next steps. I brought the x-ray home on a CD for SO to look at - lucky that she has the software. The vet is thinking he will probably have to be sedated so they can take more x-rays from different angles and get a better sense of what's going on and whether any of the pellets will need to be surgically removed.

Poor guy! Good thing he has you now. I know just how you feel... when we got our first cat from the shelter, he had been found on the side of the highway and had a broken tooth and every possible parasite. He had to have the tooth pulled, and still has a droopy side of his mouth from where he was injured. DH said for the first few months he had physical heart pangs every time he meowed! We're both such suckers.
On a related note, I think our backyard kittens are back. DH heard meowing last night and pointed a flashlight back there to see mama cat dropping one off at the food bowl. This morning I saw another when I took more food out. And I was woken up by something fighting with a skunk back there last night... Today everything stinks.Wife of PGY-4 (of 6), cat herder, and mom to a sassy-pants four-nager.

Today, I made steel cut oats for the first time and am now a total convert.
Today, I am spending my day on the phone with insurance companies and am convinced that they and their policies are the spawn of the devil.
Today, we received much needed rain - it rained for 9+ hours, a slow steady soaking rain! I need to mow my yard for only the 6th time this year.
ETA: Today, S has her first dance class and she is so excited, wearing her leotard and ballet slippers at every conceivable moment. I have a feeling she will try to wear them to bed tonight.Last edited by HouseofWool; 09-13-2012, 10:08 AM.Kris

Today was DS' first IEP meeting at his new school. It went fabulously. What a difference a new district makes! Everyone was professional, on top of their area of expertise, nice, and on the same page with wanting to make the little dude's educational experience as positive and effective as possible.
We may have relocated into the middle of BFE, but I find some reason to love this place a little more every single day.

Today DS had his first speech and occupational therapy sessions at a private facility. It's going to cost us, but he'll get one-on-one therapy (our school district only does group and the last group was 3-4 other boys just like him). He loved it! His therapists are wonderful!Veronica

Today I am glad I made the decision yesterday to change A's dance class. Several of the girls from her school take a 2pm class, she was signed up for the 10am class and the 2pm class is going to wreak havoc on R's nap. Today she will do both as a make-up for last week. There are 4 other girls in the am class and the moms are all the best of friends, sounds like some have known each other from high school. I'm so glad we are not staying in that class, none of them said one word to me today. I'm sure R will give his nap up soon anyway.Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.
