  • Love, love, love the cake Cheri!

Today, I cleaned out the fridge/freezer/pantry and planned meals for the remainder of the month using ingredients from the stockpile in our fridge/freezer/pantry (excepting Thanksgiving which will be just the 4 of us so easy-peasy). I've got 15 meals planned! This week, I have only 3 items on my grocery list. I'm hoping to put what I don't spend on groceries this month into an extra car payment -- or to save it to offset the cost of K1's birthday party and the endless parade of visitors we'll have in December. It's not yet 9AM and I feel so accomplished today.

    • To echo Tara, my 11 month old is finally sleeping through the night for real! I think! Bed between 9:30-10:30. Or heck, sometimes 11, but otherwise she would never see us, and sleeps with no waking until I get her up around 8 am. I sort of miss her in our bed, though. She's a good cuddler. I'm still bringing her in on the weekends.

      • Today it took me an hour to get out of my own driveway. There's only 4" of snow. We have a stupidly steep driveway.

          • We rented a house. It was prefect, the lady was awesome and owns a ton on homes there for all sizes of family. I recommended her if you plan on going anytime soon. This is the place we stayed at. It was so clean, and nice.

            • My favorite hen is under the weather, and I am keeping her in the mudroom/forcing abx. I hope she's okay!
I am picking up after our weekend away, visiting my parents. (How can I be behind on chores/errands if we weren't here this weekend??)
My good friend and "catcher" of Bean announced her pregnancy with #3. I am so excited, and it makes me miss her even more.
We are down to 1 car, since DH's got a flat. It's being repaired, but I'm not quite sure how we will pick it up in rush hour traffic later.

              • Nice Brandi! I'll have to keep that one in mind. I don't think we will make it this year or next, but I'm hoping for 2014.

                • Today, dh an I signed up to foster a dog on the thanksgiving holiday. The no-kill shelter here is also a pet "resort" and I guess lots of people are boarding during the holidays, so they do not have room for the rescues.

This is bound to be interesting.

                  • Today, the K Bros and I met a friend at Dairy Queen for lunch with her usually very clean and quiet children who are roughly the same ages as mine. In fact, her kids were so clean and quiet that I was feeling like a sloppy mom. Her kids were so beautiful and so nicely behaved. Her daughter has been fully potty trained for a year, her son wore a spotless white sweater and let her feed him little bites, both of her kids sleep in beds without any protest. They are perfect little cherubs. My kids both had runny noses, K1 was living with the "logical consequence" of refusing to wear his jacket today, K2 has been Mr. Crabby Pampers for the last couple days, and they were doing their best to feed themselves.

All in all, the kids did great until we started gathering them up to go, K2 wiggled free from the safety belt and attempted to climb out of his high chair. While we were tending to him, the older children got into a birthday candle display and started spinning it. Then the smaller children refused to be carried and clamored to the candle display so they could start ripping candles off the rack. K2 was so opposed to being carried that he lay on the floor of the DQ. As I was struggling to lift K2 off the floor -- he weighs 30 lbs. oof! -- I knocked over a root beer and it spilled on the floor. This resulted in a very large, slippery, sticky puddle. Now we had four children ages 3y2m, 2y10m, 16m, and 14m running around Dairy Queen, slipping and falling in the puddle of root beer. The smaller children were struggling to get up but still didn't want to be helped. The DQ employees were trying to mop up and not fall in the mess themselves. Meanwhile the little ones stumbled and slipped and cried while the bigger children were gleefully running and sliding through the puddle as though we had created this messy, sticky slip-n-slide just for them. We moms were trying to gather up our children without slipping - It was VERY slippery. Every time we got one child to safety and ordered him or her to stay put, another child would go sliding across the Dairy Queen or would climb out of a high chair and race toward the puddle. We were both shouting at our kids "DON'T MOVE! STAY RIGHT THERE!" all the while we and the DQ employees were laughing so hard that we had tears streaming down our faces.
