    • Today I was able to walk to my sister's house with a casserole dish for her to use. Why? Because she just bought a house a short walk from my house! And she got tired of digging through boxes to find a casserole dish so she could cook for Thanksgiving.

Today I really need a nap.

Today we didn't make it to Mass because the boy slept until 9 and Mass started at 9. Oops!

        • Today I got down the Christmas decorations. My love of autumn is only surpassed by my love of Christmas.

Bigger house this year...I think I can justify more decorations.

I NEEDZ MORE CHRISTMAS. RAWR. MORE!!!

          • Haha. Dh said I have too many. It is almost like hoarders. During the Arkansas game I was able to get the tree and decorations up. Tomorrow is the rest of the house.

            • I, too, put up XMas decor today while everyone napped. I've got a few strands with bulbs that have died - I have to wait until tomorrow to go through them and find my problem bulbs. We inherited my grandparents' large 7 footer, and it's in the entry way. I think I need more decor, but it will have to wait until I figure out how I want to design our front room.

                • Today, our neighbor's huge Pyranese dog got loose and our Beagle started howling like crazy when the Pyranese ambled by our house. SO ran after the dog while I ran four houses down to his owner's house, but she didn't answer the door. So I grabbed a leash and a bag of chicken treats and ran off into the woods to look for him, while SO went to put a note on our neighbor's door and stay near her house and our house in case the dog came by. It took me an hour of tramping through the woods and hollering till I was hoarse, then driving around the neighborhood, but I finally did find the dog and managed to convince him to get in my car. He took up the entire backseat of my little sedan and it was funny. I brought him back to his house, but no one was home, so I drove him to our house and was yelling to SO - "HE'S IN MY CAR! WHAT DO I DO WITH HIM???" and our Beagle was going insane at the window. SO told me that our neighbor had seen our note and came to our house nearly in hysterics, then drove off to look for him, and didn't have her cell phone with her. Not knowing what to do, SO and I tried to bring the dog into our screened in porch but our Beagle got all territorial and threw a fit, so we decided we would just take both of the dogs for a walk together. They loved that. We walked the Pyranese back to his house and just hung out there in the yard until his owner came back a few minutes later. She got out of her car, crying and crying, and hugged me twice. She had been so scared, because he's gotten loose a few times before and he doesn't come back - he's gotten picked up by the Dog Control Officer and they kept him for 2 or 3 days! So I guess I was very lucky that the dog willingly came to me and got in the car!! Spending an hour searching for him totally derailed my day (I missed the mail, and had packages and forms to go out, and didn't get to the dry cleaners before they closed to pick up SO's pants), but I'm so glad he's safe. Because I know how scary it is to lose your dog; we've been there with our own Houdini dog.

I agree. As someone with a very large dog, I can totally see the neighbor being crazy worried. People are more likely to call animal control over a large dog on the loose than a small one, no matter how gentle of a giant he or she may be.

                        • Today, is my weekly "date" with K1. We decided to ditch nature class and prepare for his birthday party instead. It's on Sunday. Granma arrives tomorrow. He's super-excited for his "monkey party." We went to the grocery store to get foods that monkeys like to eat. According to K1, monkeys eat apples, bananas, oranges, celery, carrots, peppers, chocolate-banana cake, oreo cookies, vitamins, banana chips, pretzles, raisins, mac & cheese, and apple juice. Sounds good to me (but, notwithstanding his insistance, I will not serve vitamins at the party). Then we went home, made "monkey munch" (trail mix with the banana chips, pretzles, raisins, sesame sticks, and dried fruits), and packed up goody bags. Made some decorations and talked about which friends are coming and the games we'd play at his party.

Today, K1 and I went to Target to get some socks for me. While we were there, he insisted that he "needs ARGYLE socks . . . and, and, and an ARGYLE sweater." He recognized the argyle pattern, picked out three sweaters, took off his coat, tried each sweater on while sitting in a shopping cart, and decided on a navy & red argyle sweater vest. He also picked out a pair of argyle socks and a pair of socks with mustaches on them. I bought it all for him because, hey, when a kid not yet out of diapers says he needs an argyle sweater vest and picks it out himself, you buy him the argyle sweater vest. It actually looks really cute on him in a hipster geek sort of way.
