Cassy, our glass breaks used to be super sensitive until the company came out to adjust their levels. It was crazy, we kept setting off the alarm.

    • Today my husband got an ultrasound of his kidney. For fun. He also brought home a cathether, because he wants to see what it feels like. Do all residents do this, just urology residents, or just my husband??

      • I'm going with "just your husband" ;p ... It's been years since mine was a urology resident and I'm fairly certain he never did either of those things!!

          • Um my husband had to have a procedure and a catheter for a WEEK recently and swears he will now be a lot more careful about how long he makes a patient wear one. He HATED it and had to wear it 24/7 and to work!

            • Apparently several of the other residents have gotten ultrasounds too. They just want to make sure they don't have any stones or anything. I think he was feeling left out with all of my ultrasounds.

              • US is now being integrated into the MS1 to fellows curriculum. Our institution has US machines strictly for ed purposes. People love to US themselves. I am ok with it as long as they are not pregnant and trying to check out their baby.

Now the cath thing is another story. The risk for infection alone would be discouragement enough.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

                        • Today I interviewed for a job at a financial institution for a Project Manager job. Well, at least that is what the recruiter told me. Imagine my surprise when it was an interview for the CTO. Which would have been fine, if I hadn't talked with three people in the company thinking it was for a PM job. arrrrrrrrrrghhhhhh

                          • Today I got us on a second daycare waiting list. I put off visiting a second because I thought our chances were better with the work daycare. Now I'm really regretting that, because I LOVED this other place. It's not as close to my primary office, but it's closer to the office I work at a day a week, and closer to home. And it's cheaper. I still don't know if we'll get either, but hopefully something will work out.

Ugh. I had something similar happen. I went to interview for an in-house counsel position with a division of a huge company. When I got there, I learned that two other divisions within the company decided that they also wanted to interview me for in-house counsel positions. Twelve interviews in all and I was being asked open-ended questions about why I was more qualified for the job than other candidates while not really knowing what the job was exactly or whether I was qualified for it at all. Amazing exercise in improvisation and bullshit. It would have been nice to have a head's up and job descriptions before I arrived.

I remember fretting about that when I had my first baby. He got into the second daycare right away and I was freaking out about returning to work because I really didn't want to send him there. About two days before I finished maternity leave, we got off the waiting list for the first day care. I cannot promise that will happen for you -- for my second, he was on the wait list until he was 6mo and I listed him 6mo BEFORE he was born. But it could happen so don't make yourself crazy.
