Yes! I told him if he's going to get it, he better be the first because there will be no quarantining of physicians if things gat hairy.
He said this week is his last of ICU there. It's probably wishful thinking, he's already burned out.

Here they are converting specialists to gen surg/medicine if they can’t do their normal procedures. There is no talk of releasing anyone because they will need all hands on deck.

I warned DrK last night that they may convert his geriatric psych ward to a general ward and ask him to see Coronavirus patients. Behavioral health is surely going to take a back seat to all this mess.

Mom’s CCRC is closed to visitors. I barely got in today under the “caretaker” exception. The residents there are all agitated. All outings have been cancelled. All activities have been cancelled. They pretty much want them all to stay in their apartments without any visitors. One resident saw me in the hallway on the way to mom. She followed me almost to my mom’s door, ranting about how her son couldn’t visit yesterday and she wants to move out. My mom was crying when I left because she doesn’t know when she’ll see me again.

People are really scaring me and catch panic wanting to creep in when I see the lines and empty shelves at the grocery stores. I have to keep to keep reminding myself that not everyone is in it for themselves. There is a lot of good things happening. DH and his colleagues are meeting more often than usual and are bracing themselves for what they know will be quite the beat down AND are making preparations. I am filled with gratitude for their dedication to this work because it is often overlooked when all is well since it is not a money generator for healthcare systems. Another plus is the hope that this work will spur interest and maybe fellowships across the country won’t go infilled since you can make more money by being a Hospitalist without taking on the extra training years. I am trying to focus on the positive. I see our community coming together and providing support to those needing help. Yes, there is a percentage that feel they need to hoard stuff but at least it is nice to see who’s who at the grocery store Another positive is my 73yo mom and 78yo aunt have finally embraced FaceTime and online shopping. Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

DH has his first cases in the ICU 😬He was voluntold (his words) that he would be needed at the bigger hospital (80 ICU beds) as of next week.
Schools were closed today and after 3 days at home I decided to take the kids for a drive hoping they'd nap in the car, which they did. I was very surprised to see everyone going about their business as normal in the two towns nearby. Parking lots were full. I get the grocery stores but who needs to go to HomeGoods or Michaels right now? We have a partial lockdown starting tonight and I think it's necessary. Closing schools is clearly not enough.

Thomas’ hospital closed all of the clinics except for emergent appointments. All outpatient surgeries are cancelled. Doctor’s here work soley on production so as much as everyone understands, there is huge financial anxiety. I’m sure the clinic staff and nurses feel it too. So far we have no hospital admissions for coronavirus. St Cloud is completely shutting down so I hope it stays that way.

Scotland update.
Over 70s, immunosuppressed, pregnant, all advised to stay self isolating for 12 weeks.
Anyone in a household develops a temperature or persistent cough the whole household is to self isolate 14 days.
Mass gatherings are banned. Advised not to go to pubs cafes bars gyms. Schools however are still open. I think this is so that essential workers can continue to work rather than stay at home with kids and the children aren't just passed to grandparents of a vulnerable age.
In my household I have my doctor wife who is seeing patients in our local accident and emergency department and responsible for running the hospital. My son is working on the hospital wards as a healthcare assistant. My daughter is at school. I'm starting work tonight for 9 days on call as a paramedic.
Things at the moment are very quiet as people aren't going out. already staff are taking the advice self isolate which means there's a shortage of ambulance staff. And I'm sure this will spread to other areas of health care.
Think it's going to be a long rough ride.

Day two of the massive cancels, postponed events, and social distancing. I live in the PNW where the majority of US deaths are. School won't resume for us until April 27th. We are told to prepare for longer. My youngest is in private school and had online school yesterday. It went really well. He's old enough to take care of 99 percent of what he needs himself and I have 2 teenagers in house if I have technical issues. Friday the school told the kids to clean our their lockers "as if you aren't coming back" so all text books and workbooks are at home. My teenagers are fine. My oldest is studying for the SATs -- yet the test is cancelled for now. We are hoping the June dates are when things start resuming. I realize I sound naïve.
I live in a relatively small town, so shopping has been less stressful than in other places. I have stocked up but not in a crazy way. DH's elective cases are all cancelled. Clinic cancelled yesterday for the first time. Non elective cases are still taking place.
We're in limbo but so much more fortunate than the average family. Not knowing what's going to happen is unsettling but that's the reality for everyone.Flynn
