We only had one visit to Target, which was charged on our cc ON the 15th (so not positive it's in the window or not), and Chase just sent an email out this morning telling people not to panic, to just keep an eye on charges, let them know if there are any you don't recognize, and that they already flag "odd" charges, and will replace your card if they think it's necessary (presumably if they have to deny multiple charges due to them triggering their fraud protection, or if you call in with an unrecognized charge and ask for a new number). We already keep a pretty close eye on things, so I'll just be extra aware when I check things. I have the number memorized, I don't want to change it unless I have to.

Target is giving customers 10% off of any purchases made today or tomorrow to try to get people back into the stores.

So today they came out with this...

            http://www.kshb.com/dpp/money/consum...-70m-customers

Why is that kind of information tied to your CC and being given to a store? I don't understand...

My guess is that it is all stored in the same database, so when the hackers swiped one dataset, they got all of it.

But if I use my Amex at a store does that give Amex the right to give that information to the store - why would my phone number and email be on the magnetic strip? I can understand for online orders but for store purchases...

I can understand the information being stolen off of my Target card because I'm sure you're right, I'm sure its all in the same db...

Your email address is tied to the account.

When my sister and I use the square, it will pull in a person's email address and/or phone number, which we can then use to send a receipt.

Every time I've had someone use a square a craft show they always have to ask for my e-mail. I'm not at all happy about this, this is worse then the number IMO. I can always cancel a card...

I only use my Target red card at Target so I haven't been too concerned but I imagine they got my address and email too.

It shouldn't be. In college we had to design a system for a school group that needed a card reader to read ID cards as part of the system. I swiped my credit card to see what would come up. Name, card number, security code, expiration. That's about it.

What is scary is how easy those card readers are to come by!

I also stopped giving stores my email when they ask, mainly because I am SOOOO tired of email spam and they totally abuse it.

Neimans had it happen last month too. They just announced it though.

Just got the email about that. Great! I had fraud charges on my amex card from target. Hope this doesn't lead to more charges I have to fight. Ugh!

I am nervous since we leave for vacay in 40 something days. I don't want all my cards to get locked up while we r gone.

Just discovered a fraud charge in our checking account, find out it's linked only to my debit card and PIN number. DH's debit card was not affected. While that's good for him, it's a pain in the ass for me. Some moron used our checking acct to buy $300+ worth of shit from best buy. Ugh. So annoying. I am 99% sure this is linked to the Target breach because a) DH's card was not affected and b) I was the one who shopped at Target >3 times during that time period so..yeah. GRRR
