The hospital nurse who fell for the prank call of the radio DJs and inadvertently disclosed personal information of the Duchess committed suicide yesterday.

These people are just not that interesting and, even if it were, an ounce of human compassion might be appropriate. How about not invading their privacy and causing direct and collateral damage?

Oh holy crap. I cannot imagine the liability issues for the radio station.

I don't know anything about UK law on that sort of thing. But, morally, they should be deeply ashamed. I understand that they never thought, realistically, that they would "get through"--but when they realized that they'd succeeded, they should have said, "Please let the Duchess know we send our prayers for a speedy recovery" and hung up. May not have been funny but it would have been classy. That stupid interaction has been re-broadcast all over the world. Can you imagine how guilt-ridden, embarrassed and humiliated that nurse felt? Essentially, she betrayed personal information of her future queen in a time of extremely delicate health. She didn't deserve what she got, and some people are just not strong enough to deal with something like that. People just suck.

To clarify: she wasn't even the nurse that gave the interview...she merely transferred the first call to the nurse who spilled. But, sounds like she felt incredibly guilty, anyway.

                      Ugh. That makes me sick.

Perhaps this will lead to a worldwide ban on annoying radio show hosts? I mean, something good should come of this.

I can imagine that the family will file some sort of wrongful death type suit against the DJ personally and the station as well. I am not litigious and I sure as hell would.

Apparently the woman who died was the first nurse who answered the call, who did not reveal any patient details but forwarded the call through to the ward. Just to clarify.

That is just awful. The poor woman. However I don't know that you can place the blame solely on the DJs. Some, yes, but not all. I'd bet the poor woman got a reaming from hospital administration too, which isn't necessarily wrong, but what if they threatened her job and future? It was the royal family...could happen. And maybe there were mental issues at play.

This is sort of off topic. Diane Rehm needs to hang it up. I was in the car in a mad rush after getting DD from school during her show. With her cracking voice (yes I know she has some sort of strange medical issue) all I hear was "the Duchess committed suicide." The guy talking with her was stunned and asked her if it happened in London hospital. She said yes and then something about how sad it was and how some people can not handle the intense media attention over the hospital stay and moved on. I drove straight home to turn on the TV because I thought Kate at killed herself!

^^^ agree 100%. And not even because of her voice. It's her inane commentary and stupid stupid biased lame uninformed questions to her guests that drive DH and I nuts. The show is way better when she is on vacation.
