They have some friends, who are unfortunately mostly in the same situation. Luckily, their neighbors are pretty good. I just hope they are paying attention. Maybe it will be the push they need to realize they just cannot live alone anymore.

We've got two bathtubs! Lots of water, plus we have a water purifier borrowed from FIL for our camping trip.

There is a tropical cyclone deductible as part of our renter's insurance, but no flood insurance. I don't think Allstate will let us add it 72 hours before a hurricane hits, lol.

Just saw that hurricane force winds extend 70 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds nearly 300 miles from the center. I think I'm turning off the Weather Channel until later (although I will have to cave and watch the local news in an hour).

You may need water to flush toilets and things, but glad you have lots of water!

Ahhhh, so that's what you do with it! Flush toilets! I really thought it was for drinking. What about bathing, brushing teeth/washing hands, cleaning dishes? Is it for that too? I'm totally clueless here.

It's not the hurricane that sucks. It is the power outage after the hurricane. Sigh.

ST, from what I've heard the wind shouldn't be that bad here in the inner part of Maryland. Thats the aside of the hurricane that's not too bad I guess? We went through Isabel right when we moved here and the storm was not bad, but the power outs afterward! Good lord! We lost so much food and dh was in line for 4 hours for dry ice... So we will prepare by filling our coolers with ice bc that sells out right away. For Isabel there was no ice to be had in a 4 state radius!!

Sucks. But not much you can do really.

Peggy, I would be worried if I had Pepco! Hopefully Delmarva will continue its good service through this storm :fingers crossed:

Guess we will be buying some ice tomorrow too.

They just issued a mandatory evacuation of an entire COUNTY in NJ. This is a foreign concept to me; didn't even happen with Floyd 11 years ago. Fortunately, it doesn't really effect people we know, but it effects towns that I love oh-so-much that are located on the county's barrier islands. I'm seriously turning off the TV after the national news at 6:30PM, I can't watch anymore, I just need to focus on making sure we are prepared and that our friends and family are prepared.

Hurricane watches are now up for the bays and for the coast as far north as Sandy Hook, NJ. Our state has declared a state-of-emergency effective at 6PM. My mother seriously was living under a rock when I talked to her an hour ago, absolutely no clue.

OH Hell... I just watched the news and it said we might get 75 MPH winds! We have lots of food. I guess I'll fill the tubs Friday night and get some ice? What a pain the butt!

FML. This means the front right quadrant will effect more people, and a greater possibility that we will be effected by the eye of the storm.

Didn't realize that the coast being under a hurricane watch also meant that my county is under a hurricane watch. Current info from the NWS suggests we have a 7% chance of seeing hurricane conditions and a 62% chance of seeing tropical storm conditions.

I'm really worried. Any further deviation West and it could affect DC and Baltimore as a category 2 hurricane. This hurricane is particularly powerful. They are saying it is not a fast one that it's slow moving and will cause more damage. It's also swelling and gaining strength. They have it at a category 3 right now but it could grow to a category 4 before making landfall. I'm worried for my husband's family on the east coast. They have no idea what a hurricane is like or how to prepare.

I sent them an email and this government preparation link and some notes you all left here. I also had my husband call them but they said everything is fine and they didn't seem worried. I don't know what all was said in Arabic though.

I think there will be some sheer before landfall, which i think may weaken it a bit before landfall. Looks to strengthen than weaken. If that makes any since.
