Ah! You're in the Wisco this month aren't you? How're you fairing?

    • Is it poor form to wish for a little more winter? Here in the hot part of the world, I love the sun but sometimes want to wear a jacket more often than I do. I need my core body temp to cool just a hair before summer starts (in April or May). I lived in the Midwest for a bit and admire people who are cheerful in that long winter, and i feel bad for wanting more cold now. But a few more 40 degree days would be delightful.

      • A few 40 degree days would be called spring in the Midwest.

        And would be greatly appreciated.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

            • Holy Moly, running outside conjures up the good ol' days of residency in Minnesota. LOL. It's freaking cold out there!

              • Question, how couth is it to cancel professional obligations for snow? The roads look pretty clear but on a good day it takes 45 minutes to get out to this suburb. I don't exactly have the desire to face rush hour traffic/snow for a meeting that may not even last an hour (and I'd just be in attendance I am by far not a crucial part of faculty). I emailed my boss to make sure he wasn't cancelling and he said it's not a big deal "come if you can but don't cause problems for yourself."...Should I still go?

I don't feel comfortable driving in the snow at all. I was supposed to have a meeting tomorrow morning downtown, but I really don't want to go either.

People here think snow is no big deal - and they don't do a great job clearing the roads. I do t get it (I'm from the DC area. Snow = no driving!).

That wasn't helpful, was it? What time do you need to be there?

                    • I took a short walk and the roads were pretty damn cleared. It's been snowing for most of the day but I have a feeling Wisconsinites would call them flurries! I think I've decided not to go. It's probably more about not wanting to spend 2+ hours in the car on my day off. It would be BETTER if I went, to show face, meet more faculty, etc. but whatever. He said the meeting isn't that important so I'll take his word for it (it's for students with faculty in attendance. If it were an all faculty meeting I'd be there for sure).

It's snowed so much this winter I've gone from absolute terror to mere dread having to commute as much as I do.

                      • Temp is dropping and we are going to get 6-12 inches of snow starting late tomorrow morning. Boss has already texted us that we will be open tomorrow but may close early. Thankfully DH doesn't have to work during this latest snow event.

                          • Dude, I wouldn't go, MB. If my boss gave me a viable excuse to miss ANY meeting, NFW would I turn that down.

                              • goddamn mother fucking polar vortex can shove it right up where the sun don't shine. This week won't be quite as bad, our highs will be in the single digits above zero. But I am so over it all.
