Re: The Babywearing Thread
I'm a little late chiming in regarding the warning. I always warn parents about positioning when I show them howto wear a sling. It's very easy to have a new baby tuck their chin into their chest and kink their airway when in the cradle hold. Most babies only tolerate the cradle hold for a few weeks anyway though. With wraps and soft structured carriers (and even slings) you position the baby upright. Daegan ways tucked his nose and mouth into my chest and buried his face in the fabric. Icould feel his chest rise and fall though so I didn't worry.
Regarding facing in for new babies, the theory is that it's better for young babies to face in towards the parent. That way the baby can hide his head to shut out the world if he gets overstimulated. Olderbabies can still get overstimulated from their environment, but once they have good head control, they are starting to get more interested in their world anyway so facing them out some of the time makes sense at that point.
