  • Current Weight: 112 (I'm short)

Goal: to not be so flabby, abs, endurance, tone arms, upper body strength... would be nice to be able to do a real push-up and a chin-up :/

Exercise goals: zumba 3 times a week, yoga and strength training on alternating days

Diet goal: cut down on Oreos and icecream, eat 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day, eat breakfast

    I will start Thursday hopefully.

    • I ate everything today! Mardi Gras started early apparently. Eek. At least tomorrow actually *is* Mardi Gras and the only thing left to eat is beignets. That and kale lasagna on Wednesday (already made)...then I start my Lenten detox.

Wait - kale lasagna?? Is it without noodles?

        • No it has pasta noodles. (My mom cooks dinner for the kids and I - and her and my dad - and she already had that made before I told her about my detox plan.)

Foo. I had visions of greens and tons of cheese.

How did you feel after quitting the Diet Coke? My headache lasted for four freaking days. (and good for you!!!)

            • My headaches lasted for over two weeks. I was up to 8-12 cans a day though. (3-4 liters a day)

              • This weekend (Friday through today) was bad food wise. I drank three cans of diet coke, ate two small bags of Cheetos, ate chips ahoy cookies...king cake, TCBY....I haven't had that stuff since Christmas...and I could taste the "chemicals" in all of it!!! (Not the king cake....but it was still loaded with sugar.). I'm excited for the beignets, but I'm glad to be quitting the other stuff.

                • It's amazing how once you step away from that stuff for a while, it stops being delicious and is really f'ing gross.

Now I'm really impressed about the Diet Coke. That's serious dedication to quitting...I would have been sorely tempted to sneak one or two in to try and alleviate the headache!

                  • We tried spaghetti squash last night and it was yummy. Even the kids loved it. We think we have a new go-to item.

I find that the longer I go without sweets, the less I want them. Even if if have some now, I can't eat much because it's just too sweet to me.

                    • When "quitting" I allowed myself one a day if I really needed it. I ended up being fine with just lots and lots of ibuprofen. And lots and lots of water.

Same here...the yeast infection might be a blessing in disguise since I'm supposed to stay away from carbs and sugar.

                          • I miss spin. It doesn't work with my schedule this year.

Your ass will hurt the first few times but I promise it gets easier.

Watch the stands and jogs. If they say jog-- just don't do it. It's bad for the knees. Keep the proper form for spinning in a stand position with enough resistance. I've had instructors who want me to do jumps and jogs with no resistance and I just do t do it bc it's bad for my knees.

Spin really is fun!!! Great addition to a workout routine!!

Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

                            • Thank you for this tips! I will do that from now on. My butt still hurts. Took OTC pain meds to sleep last night and today as well. I wonder if my seat was too far back.

                              • Just a quick update: I've lost 3 pounds. it's not a lot but I'll take it. I've been horrible about getting regular exercise since returning to work and I know I can do better. The couch is just too dang tempting after a long day of working, child wrangling and cleaning/cooking. Still trying to find that elusive balance. I'm starting yoga again on Saturday and am really nervous. I know it's foolish but all those thin, beautiful yoga bodies are intimidating!
