• I think I'm going to try tennis. Maybe that will help.

What I do: PHUL (weight lifting program) 4 days a week (about 1.5 h each day). Zumba 2 times a week (on the same days as lifting bc of my schedule). Softball 1 night (though I shouldn't count it as exercise because it's not really ) I'd like to add in a run, but I usually don't have time during the week. Sometimes I'll add a 30 minute run on the treadmill after a lifting day.

What I eat: complex carbs, lean protein and veggies, a smidge of fruit and a bit of dairy. I aim for 130+ grams of protein a day. I used to do low carb/high fat, but I've recently changed to lower fat (<50g) and higher carb (>100g). Around 1500-1600 calories a day. I'm 5'6" and about 130 lbs. My maintenance is around 2000. And that chart spotty_dog referenced by Precision Nutrition is so spot on.

I mess up a lot. And there were weeks I overate and I gained despite all of my activity. But when I consistently follow my "plan," the fat melts. It sucks when I turn down cupcakes though (yesterday)!

    • I play tennis and love it. I hope it helps you regain your spark. Thanks for the detailed info!

      • Maybe it's just that time of year for a lot of people?

I missed my Weds class, and that had me in a huge funk. I've been trying to add weight training at the gym, but it hasn't been successful yet. Then, there's also some weirdness happening with my local group: I don't think they like me, and there's been some commentary/lack of friends/no invites to things that has me feeling sad.

I asked DH for a TRX home system so that I can do specific bodyweight exercises at home, daily, while DS1 is at school and DS2 takes his nap. *sigh*

I am down 50 pounds (pregnancy is not kind to me, and I have big babies.), so all the baby weight is gone, but I long for the level of fitness I had between the kids (still about 15 pounds less than now, and much more muscle definition). I have more than just a number on a scale in mind, though -- I want to reapply for an assessment with my life insurance company (since my original intake was while pregnant) and have my rate go down. I also want to do fun runs again, eliminate this general sag and squish combo that I feel around my mid-section, and of course, Michelle Obama arms. Heck, definition everywhere would be sweet.

I need to be strong for myself, and for my kids - they are fast and strong-willed, and so I need to be the same.

        • I'm doing so much better with diet and actually losing weight. Finally figured out my food sensitivities/allergies and it's helped tremendously.

That said, my exercise plan has gone to hell. Luckily I'm working with my teen daughter on her cycling program so I've been managing 15-20 mile rides each weekend. No power yoga during the week though lately. I have been walking to work though, so steps are better.

Apparently, I can't diet AND exercise. It's a "choose one" situation.

          • When I find myself losing motivation I seek out an activity that I always love. Hiking. Swimming. Trying to coordinate a run with a friend. Paying for soul cycle. These things require me to go a little out of the way, and/or spend a bit of money, but I always feel rejuvenated!

I need tips on diet though... I always just succumb to my cravings, which tend to be pizza and chocolate... I'm lazy with cooking too...

            • Thirteen, it boggles my mind that people could not like you. I'd totally be your workout buddy! TRX at home sounds amazing...

Still doing barre. I think I'm in the best shape I've been in since getting married! I have a goal dress and pair of jeans I may try on at the end of the month.

My SIL is one of the NYC trainers!! That'd be wild if you've gone to her class.

I'm back at the gym this week and just feel blah. I'm doing it though. Hoping to feel inspired again. My calories are on point. And I'm getting all my colors in every day. And the fat is melting off. I should be feeling great! But I'm not. I'm going it's just a slump in the cycle.....I felt on fire and amazing this summer. So much energy! I felt like I could train 5+ hours a day. But the past few weeks, I'm struggling to just get through the basics. I'm needing caffeine to get through the day. (Still no diet coke though! Almost 15 months soda free! )

I'm not feeling it. But I'm doing it.
Michele, could it be that you're bored? I've watched you go through this with several things in your life, and ultimately you make changes and are much happier (for awhile). What if it's not even that something is "wrong" but you like change and...lets face it. are so intelligent you need it?

I know the gym, softball, and zumba are all pretty social activities for you. Any chance you'd consider CrossFit? Seems like the kind of tribe you could get into for awhile.

And lastly...loosening those hamstrings could certainly be a several month endeavor! If you can find a studio with challenging ashtanga classes you'd be surprised how hard you're working (but I've said all this before)

                  • I'm going to yoga today. Yes it's gym yoga! But maybe it and tennis are the changes I need. I do change things up quite a bit huh? I always think I want to get into some sort of consistent life groove, but as soon as I do, I get the itch to switch it up. Fear of commitment!

                    • This hasn't been a great week for me either. I haven't worked out since my run on Monday, with just a lot of stuff keeping me too busy. But... I went shopping instead of the gym on Tuesdsay, and I'm down a jeans size! Soooo excited!

I dunno, I like to call it dilettantism. Or I would like to call it that if I could spell it without spellcheck.

You know I like to harp about calories but when I was aiming to be ~130 (at 5'5.5") my trainer had me on 1800 kCal. By the time I got down to 127 my lean body mass was higher and I actually needed to bump that up so I wouldn't be too tired to work out. Could fatigue be part of your ennui?

Definitely possible I'm too low on calories right now. I just started reining it back in, so I'm going to run it for another week or two and see. But I'll bump them up if I continue losing as quickly as I am.

Yoga was neat. I liked the instructor. She gave lots of levels of modification! And tennis starts next week. I think I'm going to take a Zumba break for a bit.

                          • Forgot to add on mine, I did get a work out in this morning. Did 10 minutes of ellipticals and about 45 minutes of weights. Felt good, but I'm tired now!

                            • I was definitely too low. I rebounded and binged on cake. :/

Just throwing it in here for honesty's sake.
