Well, anyone finish yet? Any tales to tell? I should be starting this on Friday or Saturday.

        Re: The French Laundry

Just got the cookbook on Monday. I also got Bouchon from the library and was drooling over that Sunday night.

We have dinner and a show planned with friends on the 25th and I was thinking of making it for dessert with my 41yo port for after the show.

Zero progress due to illness. I still have the poaching liquid and roasted nuts just waiting. Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday???

Bouchon sounded great. I might have to check that out from the library.

Yes, I fully intend on tackling some of Bouchon after TFL. Sorry your progress was halted Nellie. I hope you all feel better soon!

            How's it going, Luanne?

I bought all of the ingredients today. I'm assuming I can cut the poaching liquid in half.

I say halve it and pour yourself a glass or two of sauvignon blanc.

Since I already made it I'll use the extra to poach some pears again.

                  Re: The French Laundry

Well, yesterday the pear was gone, along with MORE than half of the walnuts. I must blame Jory, since I know Winston's and Franklin's legs are way too short to reach the counter. I decided to drink the wine and will wait until the next recipe. But what to do with the Vanilla Bean?

I'm really really hoping to make this tonight. I don't care if it pairs horribly with dinner, I'm looking at a....wait. ****!!!! I can't do it tonight. You've got to be freaking kidding me. Maybe tomorrow night.

                        Tonight for dinner:

                        Frozen taquitos
Cream of Walnut Soup for dessert

Oh, yeah, baby. That's how I roll.

I love it, Heidi. Now what wine will you pair with that?

If I can unload some kiddos on the neighbor, maybe, just maybe, we will have this soup tonight. I'm making Chinese Noodles with Cockles and Pork but using turkey instead of the pork and plain old clams (aren't cockles clams anyway? stupid Food and Wine). Soup for dinner and soup for dessert.

                            The verdict is:

I won't make this again. It wasn't sweet enough for me. Just not my taste. It was good, but not my thing.

I'm disappointed that the first dish wasn't a homerun. I am not disuaded though. We need to decide what dish to make next.

The more I have, the more I like it. I got nearly a 3 cup yield from the recipe. Lots for just me!

Anyway. It is really good, but I wish it were sweeter.

I can't wait- I'm planning on having it all ready with the port and a first dessert course of some cheese and nuts.
