      • Today at 7:25 am my doorbell rang. I opened it to find two of C's classmates (they are brothers) at my door. C was still in his jammies and eating breakfast. He scurries around and finishes getting ready. After he heads outside with the boys, I hear him shout "Hi Grandma." I was supposed to be meeting my folks at his school at 8 so they could take S for the day. S and I head outside and see that yes, my folks were there 30 minutes early. They come in while I get things ready. (Keep in mind, it is Thursday and my house is a disaster which it normally is by the end of the week.)

Then I look outside and see that the 3 boys are STILL milling around, but now they have been joined by M (the teacher)... M has been meeting C at our house a couple of mornings a week to ride their bikes to school together. Today, he was like the pied piper... Of course S had to go out and talk to him, too.

None of this would have been a big deal if I had known that the boys were planning on meeting up at my house or if my folks had warned me that they were coming here instead meeting at school like planned.

The counselor in me is very pleased. So glad you are paying attention to the need for good self care, and taking a few months off. Perfect! Enjoy your summer, and dude, a 3.81 in grad school is amazing. I need to listen to my own advice....I finished my PhD program with a 3.94, and I am mad about the two A minuses I got. Insert huge eye roll here. I really irritate myself sometimes!

              • Our friends had their first baby this morning. After many years of infertility treatments, several unsuccessful pregnancies, a beautiful round of IVF, and an ugly loooooong labor -- a beautiful, perfectly healthy little girl has come into a great family. I'm so excited for them.

                  • I am checking all chicken poop, to make sure all the hens are healthy.

Also, I am acting as both chef and parent-on-duty for a febrile toddler.
