              • Today would have been my beloved aunt's 61st birthday. Instead, my uncle, my two cousins and their siginficant others are scattering her ashes from a hot air balloon in Napa. She was so full of life - irreverant and hilarious and wonderful - on a whim, she recently had told her husband (my uncle) "if something happens, just take my ashes to Napa and put them anywhere. Bonus points if it's from a hot air balloon. Try to get me near some grapes. You know I love wine" and when she died very unexpectedly in February, he decided to do just that.

I still find myself being surprised to know she's not here. She won't be popping up at family functions or impromptu gatherings at my parents house. It hurts me to know that my dad lost her - they were the most alike of the 5 siblings, and I think a little piece of him went with her. I still miss her so much. I'm glad her children and husband and grandson are able to do this for her in CA. She loved it there.

                      • Today my husband started his orientation for residency!

Today, I finally e-mailed my new boss and told him I'm pregnant. I know I should have told him in person, but I chickened out, and it seemed like getting a meeting with him before I start next week would be a pain, since he just returned from a 2 week vacation and the department administrator just passed away.

                        • Today I made DS skip his nap. He's been taking 2+ hours to fall asleep at night, so I'm hoping it helped. He was a little overtired by bedtime and fought sleep, but he wasn't giggling and playing in his bed or coming out of his room. I'm hoping he/I don't have an awful night because of it... I'm sad to see his nap go, but as much as I fight dropping naps, I end up loving the freedom that comes with it.

                          • Today my daughter was an awful, horrible hellion who wouldn't listen, screamed, repeatedly tried to get down and run away, and tried to bite me for the first time. I was SOOO not looking forward to the 3 hour flight home...completely packed and no extra seat so she could be restrained in a car seat. I was thinking doomsday scenarios.

Instead she fell asleep within 5 minutes of takeoff and slept until 15 minutes before we landed. And there happened to be 2 free seats in front of us (WTF gate agents I specifically asked about this?), so the lady in our row moved up and N had a free seat in between.

                            Truly a miracle.
