It's not much better if you do know them. There's a pocket of people on Ravelry's message boards that espouses a wild far-right point of view. They have been hugely anti-Obama for years, and now the loudest voices in that group are hugely pro-Trump. One of them is even a dawkter's wife.

They just posted a link to a blog, but I don't want to drive traffic from here to the blog. So I'll just summarize that it's a metaphorical story about a "Uniparty" with its "Donkey" faction that has strongholds in the north, and its "Elephant" faction that has its strongholds in the south. The story says that there's a castle in DC that oversees it all, and these factions take turns changing the color of the flag above the castle, but nothing about the business inside the castle changes. But it introduces Trump as "a Northerner who became wise to the castle life, and who broke custom by travelling to the Southern clan. According to those who hold some knowledge, he is mounting a rebellion against the entire enterprise itself."

They're voting for Drumpf as an anti-politician whom they still believe to be self-funded. They think they'll get an "alpha male" who "cares about national sovereignty and borders" -- I think they're going to get an unpredictable dictator. But what do I know.

I went to bed at 9:30 last night because I couldn't watch anymore. I'm generally a pretty calm person but it makes me so mad, not healthy. I wonder if there's such a thing as election induced hypertension lol.

I'm also more scared of the following than the leader. It's hard to see so much anger unmasked (on both sides of the aisle Sander/Trump voters) and on Trump's side to see the anger and the hate.

I know several Bernie supporters that plan to vote for Trump if Bernie isn't on the ticket. It's all fueled by anger at the "establishment".

My issue is what to do with my vote if he wins. I don't want him to win, so I want to vote against him. However, I don't want to give Hillary/Bernie a "mandate" in a landslide election either because I also don't agree with the vast majority of their positions.

I am concerned a 3rd party candidate wouldn't take enough votes away from Trump (or Cruz). Need to dig on Rubio more. I don't align with him politically but I don't fear him. Could be getting sucked into his boyish good looks and charm, though.

And Sanders people voting for Trump instead of Hillary??? Fools.

I actually wonder how many Democrats voted for Trump in the primaries either because they liked him??? Or as an FU to the Republican Party. I know of more than one from Facebook, and the Dallas Morning News interviewed one guy who said that is what he did. Maybe that would explain Massachusetts.

                      • So 8 of the states that voted last night had open primaries. I'm sure a lot of Independents and Democrats voted for Trump too. I bet it made a huge difference in MA, VT and VA and states where he barely won. I'm hoping this will mean that he gets less votes going forward when only Republicans can vote for him.

                        • Fivethirtyeight.com shows that Trump has taken 34% of the Republican vote so far.

I have seen some discussion on Facebook about whether a third-party write-in is a valid way to steal the thunder and "mandate" of a landslide election, or whether one should always vote for the least-worst candidate in a two-party system in lieu of "throwing away" a vote. Definitely some Sanders people saying that Clinton and Trump are more similar than different on a policy level.
