  • It has been much the same here in the burgh. Though when I hop into my cool car after bikram class, I sorta like it...for just a minute.

    • the wind is shaking the windows in my house so much I'm afraid they're going to break. HWY driving's going to be a lot of fun today. (esp when it starts to snow)

It's cold today though. Only mid fifties. No matter. 70's again tomorrow.
*muwah* fuck you very much, dearie!

Here is an article from today's paper...
Potentially life-threatening cold could return Monday to the area, bringing round-the-clock subzero temperatures and minus 40 wind chills, according to weather experts.
Wind chills could dip near minus 40 both Monday and Tuesday mornings, reaching their lowest point around sunrise, said Andrew Just, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Not accounting for wind, the weather service predicts lows of minus 20 for Monday and minus 15 for Tuesday. The result is a cold snap that rivals Jan. 6, when wind chills dipped to minus 48, forcing schools and businesses to close.

The polar vortex isn’t over, this is just “another piece of it,” Just said. Temperatures could stay below normal into mid-February, according to the weather service.
Public school officials say they will monitor the weather this weekend but don’t expect to make a decision until this weekend whether to close schools.

FML and fuck the polar vortex. We aren't a pole. Go home.

        • Apparently 4-6" of snow tonight. And the one month DrBtobe can go to his gaming group! I hope it is clear for him to be able to go.

          • Polar vortex has made our winter dry and warmer than usual. We had a short cold snap with sub-zero temps, but that's it. Only maybe an inch of snow, TOTAL this year.

                      • We have 1"-3" of snow predicted for tomorrow here on the gulf coast plus some sleet and ice accumulation and this town has lost its everloving mind. You guys would get such a kick out of this place right now. The scrolling tickers on the local tv stations warning of the impending "winter weather advisory" started *yesterday*; the grocery store was a total madhouse this afternoon and they were completely out of bottled water; EVERYTHING has already been declared closed/cancelled for the next two days -- schools, businesses, local gov't, you name it; they've cancelled all elective surgeries at the hospital for tomorrow. They've been telling people to prepare "like you would for a hurricane".

                        • Houston too. They cancelled school last week. Because it was cold. As in, the 30s.

Ha, they did this during the last significant cold snap. Absolutely no precipitation was predicted, but they delayed or cancelled schools all over the area. Because it was below freezing.

The real question is Where in FL?

                              Comment

                              • Do they have heat? I grew up in a house in Fl with no heat. My dad thought it was unnecessary. He was mostly right. I always remind people up here about that when they tease FL for "needing" air conditioning.

If the schools aren't equipped for this and don't have salt or plows, maybe it is a hardship.

I still enjoy teasing them. We are under 16 inches of fresh snow and currently at -4 actual temp. Never mind the windchill!
