I may not be at the conference, but I get to see Michele today at the beach.

BabyJ was an angel on the way home from the conference and slept through the whole flight. He was nice and quiet til we got home, which was good because I am exhausted from dragging him, a carseat, and 4 bags home

I just checked the conference website for the paper I'm working on, and the deadline has been extended from this Thursday to next Monday!! (So of course I come here to procrastinate more...)

I got "the golden ticket" today: my OB wrote me a rx sheet to call her when I deliver, to give to L&D.

I told her she didn't have to, but I'm pretty excited about it. I always figured it would be whoever is on-call that day.

Awesome! My OB just gave me his cell phone number and told me to text him.

Took less than 15 minutes to register three of our vehicles in our new county and the place was packed. Also cost just under $150 total. This is how you run a government office, Williamson County TN for the win

Knoxville is like that too! I walked into the electric company and it's totally empty with a little receptionist greeting you.

                    • Cabin in the woods has a massage table. I was skeptical but whatever makes it work is genius. So relaxing! And it's loud enough that I can't hear my noisy kids and niece!

                        • We've had three evenings out with friends in the last week. No kids involved, all super fun - a hot new restaurant, a ball game and an art house movie. I got promoted from a consultant to an part-time employee by one of my clients; not sure if that will be better or worse, but it comes with totally private free office space so I'm calling it a win. Maybe heading in to my empty nest years in four years will turn out to be a good thing!

                            • This is kind of petty compared to all yours but a topic you definitely can help with. DrH is in his 2nd week of MS-1 and has been grumpy since school started. When I ask about why he's grumpy (like everyday) he complains about some aspect of school (usually semantics of some sort - boring lecturer, not knowing what is needed for class, website sucks - nothing crazy). Yesterday, he finally said "he's not having fun". I responded "You thought medical school would be fun?!" He said yes. Any thoughts?

                              • ^^ all I can say regarding the above is that it's a big adjustment. And yeah, they probably do think it will be "fun" just because - hey - they are finally on the journey to being doctors, as weird as that sounds. They know it will be work but be warned - the learning curve is steep. I remember our first couple of months as feeling like we were completely flailing. Both of us, together and individually. We had no idea how much of an adjustment it would be, my husband found himself sort of clueless and freaked out by all the "unknowns" (what's expected of him, what's the best way to study, what will the first exams be like, what's the most efficient way to use his time with lectures, modules, etc. and on and on and on). I suspect your future doc will hit his stride eventually but yeah, initially be prepared for some freaked out mood swings and grumpiness. It's a lot of pressure and while they all go in knowing that, I don't think there's a way they can actually prepare for just how much work it is, how much pressure there is, how much competition, and how much is expected of them. It starts getting "fun" (sort of) when they feel/see a reward for their hard work (at least in our case), when they start doing clinical things, then it gets WAY WAY less fun when they have to study for boards, and gets fun but busy again when they can start doing rotations and doing the clinical side of things.
