  • My goal is to do a 5K this fall. There are a couple of them for local fall festivals.

    • Go Kris! I swear the hardest part is figuring out what will fit in to your schedule. Once you do that, it's much easier to make it a habit.

My "tip" of the month: I found that putting a large bowl of cherries on the kitchen counter made them my stress/emotional eating munchie for the entire end of year, family visit period of this month. I must have eaten 3 pounds of cherries, but that was a lot better than 3 pounds of chocolate.

      • Angie - you are spot on. I've been running for a couple times a week for more than a month now and I find if I skip more than one day I start to feel antsy. My poor pre-arthritic knees (they sound like freaking rice crispies - but until they hurt more, surgery isn't indicated) can't take too much pounding, so running every day is out.

Last night I found that sweet spot again and ran 2 miles straight for the first time in 2 years. I probably could have gone further but it was after 9 by the time I got out there anyway...

So, I think it is time to officially register for the 5k...

        • I'm back on Diet Coke. . I haven't noticed a change in my weight, but my abdomen is definitely more bloated. And I'm craving sweets like a mofo.

For my LoseIt friends, yes I gained recently when I stopped counting. But I'm back on track and the weight came off. It's unrelated to the soda.

          • I need to start counting again. It makes a huge difference. I'm not good at just "knowing" what I've eaten -- but I think I'm getting better. I haven't gained but I haven't been losing, either -- unless I write it all down. Boo. It's gotten SO boring since I've been doing it since January. I've been off the counting wagon for weeks now.

            *sigh*

            Maybe today is the day.

            • I need to get back on the counting bandwagon because I HAVE to lose at least 10 pounds by the beginning of August so I don't have to buy new dress slacks for an upcoming business trip.

I feel this way too. I haven't counted since before our wedding. For months I didn't actually have to count or measure because I basically just knew, but it's been over a year and I think that is wearing off.

I think part of the problem for me is that I still have an iPhone 4 (it's so old, but I'm trying to hold out for the 5s). Anyway, all the tracking apps are so slow on it, and I find it so frustrating. I keep telling myself I'll count again once I get a new phone. Excuses, excuses! As if I couldn't just write it down, ha!

                • Well, I'm counting today. I guess I'll just take it one day at a time....

I've recently started getting comments on my weight loss. That's encouraging --- but I wish they'd started 3 weeks earlier. They seemed to start 3 weeks after I'd given up! LOL Maybe the powers above are trying to send me some encouragement to continue. I still have about 20 lbs I'd like to shed -- 35 if I want to be a middle-aged super model.

                        • Ha! I do remember, that's the part of scared of! I'm sort of ok actually, but a glass of wine or two post move (which I will need), plus dinner out will really put me over. I also missed my usual class this morning, but hoping I'll be able to make it to the evening version! If so, I should be ok. Which isn't so bad for a day when the kitchen is in boxes and we were trying to finish everything in the fridge.

                          • Dinner at the ballpark wasn't helpful for me either....but sometimes you just have to record it and even it up over the next day or two.

                            • I officially hit the 10 pound mark today, well actually yesterday, but my weight fluctuates wildly, so I until it is at least 2 days, I tend to discount it as water weight. I still have 5 pounds to lose before my dress pants will fit reasonably (I haven't tried them on yet - too scared), but I am feeling more optimistic about reaching that goal. I would like to make it another 10 (for a total of 20 pounds) so that I am back to what I weighed when I got pregnant with S.

I have noticed that my current pants are starting to fit better, but I am no where near ready to go down a size yet. And depressingly no one has noticed the changes.

I've honestly come to the conclusion that having a splurge night occasionally is helpful because it tricks my metabolism into thinking that there isn't some sort of famine going on.
