  • I'm not consistent! That's why I need the challenge! The days I'm active, I kill it!!! But on work days, I bet I don't even get 1000 steps.

    • Finally broke through a two-day migraine and made it out for a jog today. Lots more walking than jogging but at least I was out there. AND during baby music class today one of the other moms told me of a gym that does childcare for 6mo+ (previously I haven't been able to find one in town that will take kids under 2 -- fat lot of good that does me) which I'm SO freaking excited about. I'm gonna go check it out and hopefully start up with classes next week!! I so need this.

I bet you do! Walking in and out of exam rooms is a lot more steps than my sitting at my desk all. day. long.

This. I got about 600 steps until this evening when I wasn't tied to a desk. Horrible!

          • He he. I guess we will see on Monday! I got it set up. Its a Flex. My email address is my first initial followed by my last name at gmail dot com. Feel free to friend me because I have no idea how to work this thing yet! But I am doing Zumba tomorrow and I have flag football practice tomorrow night. I'm interested to see what my day looks like FitBit style!

            • Both kids spiked fevers yesterday late afternoon, so DS1 is staying home today. DH told me he got hit with chills and body aches late last night, so it would seem we have a virus going through our family. I don't feel 100%, but I have no fever or other symptoms (other than swollen glands in my neck).

Thinking about going a slow pace and jogging the usual 3 mile stretch with both kids in the double jogger.

***For those of you with desks: see if you can get a conversion piece to make it a standing work station. DH asked for that several months ago and says he feels so much better during the day.

              • Can the fitbit be too sensitive? I've got 10K steps before noon?

LOL. If you are active, 10k isn't necessarily a big deal. I nudged my goal up to 11k but still, on days when I go for a stroll with hubby I get 11k by 11am. But as noted, those with desk jobs (or who are prone to hanging out on the internet a little too long...*coughcough*guilty*cough*) will find 10k to be more of a challenge. And getting there consistently can be kind of a feat (we all have days when we want to be a slug on the couch, amiright?) It's all personal!

It can definitely be too sensitive (I can rack up over 1000 steps rocking my baby in the rocking chair...) but for an active person 10K would be easy to hit -- I think it translates that into about 4 miles. If you just keep an eye on it regularly the next couple of days you can probably pinpoint if there is some activity that it's overcompensating for. If you want to make it less sensitive, put it on your non-dominant wrist but select "dominant" in your account settings.

                      • I'll just leave it through the weekend and then reassess.

                        • I usually have 2k when I get to the gym in the mornings. Then if I have time I stay on cardio machines until I hit 10k. Then it just depends on the day. The days I work close to home / walk to work I finish 15-20+k. Days I'm in the car not much higher than 15k. So normal life / no cardio I average 8-15k.

What sucks is that it didn't recognize strength training or yoga.

                          • Does anyone know how the steps compare to what you get on an iPhone? I only use my phone pedometer and only track steps when I'm on a walk, not just generally moving. Curious how they compare. My one mile round trip walk to work rarely gets me more than 3000 steps, so I'm guessing it's comparable?

I read an article that said phone pedometers tend to be more accurate than Fitbits. I don't know what the parameters of that claim were (it was an article about how people are silly to buy in to fitness tracker devices when their phone already does that. ) About 2-3000 steps per mile sounds right.

I usually have 1500-2000 just from my morning routine (get myself and kids dressed and walk the .1 miles to the bus stop.) A day of errands and housecleaning, no "exercise", can get me up to 8-10k. But today I did some computer work and then drove to a meet-up, so I am not even to 2500 and it's 1:30! And this afternoon I'm going to spend 3 hours either in the car or sitting and watching the kids at their activities. This is the kind of day where I really need the walk, in more ways than one.

                              • That's it's greatest use, when you finish the day and see you're still under 10k

I quit the challenge then walked all morning with DH. Feels weird not having it on my wrist!
