  • I don't have high hopes for the upcoming season because of all the cast changes but I'll probably watch anyway

    • I'm still going to get my dose of Downton even though I read that another cast member won't appear in Season 4 at all - they'll just be written out. I don't want to spoil who it is but the news is already out there today with the interview with the person as to why. It's not Matthew or Sybil of course but a third character just *poof* gone. I liked their explanation as to why they're gone though. It made a lot of sense and they even revealed the way they'd be written off in Season 4, and I guess I should have seen that coming with the way they laid it out at the end of Season 3.

Did anyone else see Mrs. Patmore the Downton Abbey cook playing a small role on the TV show "Once Upon A Time" in their last episode? It's on hulu if you want to catch it in "The Queen is Dead" episode.

In other news I'm getting back into revisiting "Little Women", the book and the movie, and I think Downton brought that on somewhat.

It also took me awhile to realize that the lead character of Once Upon a Time, Emma Swan, was also formerly Dr. Allison Cameron from the hit TV show "House". For the longest time I kept asking myself who is she and I couldn't place her until the final episode of House when she returned in a flashback/dream and I had an "oh, ah ha, uh duh" moment. I felt so dumb cause House was one of my favorite shows for a long time so I should have known that right?

I liked the character of Johanna on Once Upon a Time. She seemed similar to her role of Mrs. Patmore on Downton. I wonder if we'll see more of her in the flashbacks or if it's a one episode thing. IMDB hasn't updated so we'd don't know. We only have the press releases from January saying she was cast on OUAT for the character.

As for the spoiler I agree with you. I'm just sorry we won't be getting to see a send off episode with a boot in the arse for them...lol <insert laughing devil with horns>

          • Probably just wishful thinking but maybe it will be like MASH and it actually got better with the cast changes. ( I HATED Henry Blake and LOVED Col. Potter!!! ) I'm still mad about Matthew...

Frank to Charles and Trapper to BJ were even better transitions; Potter was an improvement on Blake, but I did like Henry. Trapper and Frank? Not so much. I'm going to miss Matthew, for sure.

              • I'm still mourning Sybil, Levinia and Matthew. I know most don't mention Levinia but I really liked her. They are all sweet characters but I like what you said about it being like M.A.S.H. where it got better with the character changes. I hope this show will have the same popularity and longevity because I really love it.

                • I was sobbing with the episode about Sybil and I saw that one coming. With Matthew I didn't expect it until he was in the hospital talking with Mary after she had the baby and I thought, "This is too happy, something is going to go wrong." I was more mad than sad at the end, why can't there be a happy ending.

                  • I didn't see Sybil or Matthew's passing coming. I sobbed at Sybil's passing too. That was so difficult to take. Matthew's passing caught me by surprise. I already knew he was leaving but I really didn't expect him to be killed off until the last minute when I saw they were doing a montage of him happy as a lark because of his newborn and the other car coming down the way towards him. It was literally the last minute. I'm really glad they showed him with the car on top of him turned on it's side and his blood running out of him or I wouldn't have believed he'd died. Otherwise, I'd be wondering until the fourth season if he'd made it. That scene left no doubts he was gone.

I didn't see Levinia's passing either. The first Christmas episode was and still is my favorite episode by far. I think the spirit that contacted them in Ouija board was Levinia's because of the sweet message being similar to her sweet heart and her wanting happiness for Matthew and Mary even on her death bed.

                    • In England, they cannot commit actors to a TV series for more than 3 years. And their agents encourage them to leave when the 3yrs are up to do other projects. For actors playing servants on Downton Abbey, it's easy to just say they are working elsewhere. But for actors playing family, if the actor won't come back to do a special episode now and then, they have to kill them off. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense that they'd never be seen again.

                      • Maybe they could've sent Matthew to rehab for that nasty coke habit he needed to kick. Did you see how red his eyes were sometimes? No, you're right, death was the only reasonable explanation they could give. Seemed really rushed though...

                        • It was the last episode they had the actor under contract and they probably didn't want to have a dreary Christmas episode. They don't usually do the end-of-season cliffhangers like we do in the US.

                          • That's good news to hear that they don't do cliff hangers! It always bothered me when something really dramatic happens and I have to wait months to find out the rest. The suspense in movies just kills me too and I can't take it. Someone might as well bash me in the head with a hammer and put me out of my misery.

Also I didn't know Matthew had a coke problem! Eeks! No wonder.

Anyways...I wanted to share this amazing gem on Yahoo news today! "Downton Abbey" tours! Link I would LOVE to go on a tour of the fictional downton abbey dressed up in a period piece costume of course. I had no idea about the history of the real place before either and how much is parallels the fictional story line in ways.
