  • Today is DS's first day of preschool!

Today my new computer should be delivered. Taking bets on whether or not it will come while I'm taking/picking up DS but I won't get it because it requires a signature...

    • Today, I'm counting down the days til residency is over so I can move out of this horrible city. Trying to find a new place to live has made me remember what I hate about this place...everything.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

Haha I visited a place in the burbs yesterday. The adorable, elderly landlord asked me, "why do you want to live here, you don't have kids or a man! There's no action here!" Yes, thank you for rubbing it in that I am a freak of nature by this state's standards. Too bad the place was a dump, cuz she was super feisty and cute.

I have calls in at at least 30 places. It's unbelievable how many people list places for rent and then don't answer their messages. And this includes real estate companies. One guy from a legit company called me back drunk from a party on Labor Day after I couldn't leave a message because his voicemail was full. Yeah. I really I am beginning to think that nobody in this damn city is competent.

And I really am not a suburban person. But I guess it's better to be miserable in the burbs than living in a dumpster.

To be honest, the Tosa East neighborhood is pretty great. There is a stretch of North Ave that has fine dining restaurants, several neighborhood bars (think Cheers), great bakeries, and the Rosebud Theater should be reopening before long. It is a vibrant community. Granted there isn't the nightlife like the third ward has, but rent is reasonable and depending on where you end up, biking to work is a real option (and you could probably park closer with a bike than any of the employee lots). So, a few blocks north or south of North Ave between 86th and 63rd(ish) probably describes my ideal urban locale. Downtown Tosa isn't much, but there are some decent community activities (festivals) and there is a walking trail along the river.

                        • Today, I dropped the dog off to get her teeth cleaned. Her breath was worse than A's worst diaper. I'm hoping they don't have to pull a bunch of teeth :/

Today, I woke up at 2:30 and finally fell back asleep after 4, only to be woken by DH's alarm at 5:15.

Today, I will get the house cleaned and my bags unpacked from the weekend.

Today, I am nursing an allergy-related sore throat.

                          • Today I'm on my way to Boston. 4 hours of flying for a 2 hour meeting.

Today, D only woke up once between 10 pm and 3:30 when I had to get up - it made me so sad because of course I lay awake from 1:30-3:30 and didn't get sleep because I stupidly started responding to work emails after I nursed her back down at 1.

Today, after I get back from Boston, I am going to pick up a Learning Tower (toddler moms, google it!) that I found on CL for $100 (a huge bargain).

Today, also when I get back from Boston, is our first meat CSA pick up.

Ok, in typing this, I realize I have a LOT to do today...
Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)

                            • Today, I feel blessed to have such a wonderful partner. Yesterday was our 2-year anniversary, and despite the fact that she had a huge pile of work to do, she went up to her office to make me a beautiful, nature-themed, mosaic/collage card. That's our new tradition - we're going to make each other cards on holidays, instead of buying them. I've enjoyed making cards my whole life, but my partner always felt like she wasn't creative and crafts were just not her thing... until she decided to try it, and discovered that she loves it. She tells me about how before Valentine's Day, she went marching into Michaels craft store, found an employee, and was like, "I need a doily! And red paper!" So funny. Now, our sweet cards are hanging side by side on the fridge, and she's already excitedly planning the Halloween card she's going to make me!!
