    I just don't get it.
why are you trying to be more social? ive gone years having close friends in town and years of not.if youre craving social interaction thats one thing but if youre not, why try? friends of convenience are draining.

The title of 'doctor' almost automatically breaks down any and all personal boundaries. I think its a old fashioned idea that might still persist in smaller towns where people do feel more connected social, but many people think the doctor's wife knows a lot about medicine just because she lives with a doctor. Obviously that is a ridiculous thought since you have no interest in the medical field. Why don't they know your the go-to woman for paint and home repairs!?!? If your husband was a home builder they probably would ask you those questions.

Don't hate me for saying this! I think the universe has a way of challenging us in areas where we need to grow personally. I know for me its change and control. I've always hated change and here I am living a life for the past 9 years full of change and lack of control. Its very hard for me, but I'm learning with each step that I'm capable of dealing with it. Kicking and screaming does not serve me and I've learned that hard lesson. I've missed out in the past due to the kicking and screaming reaction.

It does sound like the hairdresser is creeping in on your space a bit too much, but think about how your reaction (wanting to be more hermit like) might not serve you very well, especially since it doesn't just block her from interacting with you but it also blocks others from interacting with you... folks you might actually like to see or chat with. Its just a thought. And no hating Moonlight for her psychobabblel!

      • Today I'm making myself lots if reminders on my calendar so that DH takes at least part of Spring Break off next year. This year he's stuck covering because 2 of the 4 are already off but next year there will be 6, 3 of whom don't have kids! 10 days is WAY to long for me and the kids to be alone together!

I had a pretty severe reaction, ca. 1981, apparently I was running a high fever and screaming continuously (when I was NOT a screaming kind of toddler)...I may even have been hospitalized. So for my whole life when asked if I'm allergic to anything, I've said, "I am sensitive/allergic to pertussis vaccine." Well, I'm due for a tetanus booster, and with pertussis cases on the upswing, I decided to run the risk that acellular pertussis vaccine won't affect me even if whole cell vaccine did those many years ago. I made the MA really nervous by making her identify the injection site for me (I got my flu shot at the same time in the same arm), so I can be aware of any local reaction that way. "Um, you've had a bad reaction before?" Here's hoping I'm fine (but I'm off to google adult Tdap adverse reactions just in case -- the clinic gave me the CDC sheet for childhood DTaP.)
Sorry for the super random resurrection of this post... But I got my Tdap vaccine today, not realizing that it would likely get super sore. How long did it hurt?

I'm heading home this weekend and was planning on a bunch of golf. Is that no longer in the cards? (I'm not really sore yet, just reading that soreness can last for over a week!!!! And I'm pissed because I'm on such a great new fitness kick. I'm so not getting any of this crap anyway!!!! This was stupid. I should have said no!!!).

                  • I got it a couple weeks ago, and I think I was sore for 2 or 3 days.

                    • Today...

Errr. Bummer. Poor planning on my part! Thanks though, good to know!

I'm trying to move it a lot and hear it, hopefully that will help? I did have some freakish hand cramping earlier, I hope that isn't a bad sign.

I was already really sore, maybe I won't notice.... ☺️

Ibuprofen helped me after the pertussis shot, I tend to get pretty sore too.

Cool. I took aleve, maybe it will help...

I usually get really sore from flu shots - I assume this is similar (or maybe worse?). I think the last time I had a flu shot in my arm I also had neck pain for like a month. I totally forgot that I had been getting them in my hip (which is way better). I should have asked for that today, I just wasn't thinking.

                          • That's a really good idea, I just *try* not to tense up (ha!) and take ibu beforehand if I remember.

                            • I usually do that try not to tense up thing too. But that hadn't been working so well, so I just skipped flu shots for a few years. Then last year I went to the IM clinic at the hospital, and one of the nurses suggested the hip thing. It was magical. Really, I felt nothing except a little tenderness if I pressed on the spot, but it didn't interfere with running or anything like that. It was great.
