  • I feel bad bc DH and the kids worked their behinds off yesterday and built a HUGE igloo. We were supposed to have freezing rain last night. Instead, it got up into the mid 50s overnight and now the igloo is a pile of mush and the rest of the snow is gone. (we just got 10" a few days ago! Gone.)

Late tonight we're supposed to get the nastiness you all to the west of us are experiencing. I suspect the kids won't have school.

    • *pulls out crotchety little old lady cane* Back in MY day, you had to stand and wait outside the school for the morning bell, unless the temps were below 0 (without wind chill). Recess wasn't even canceled until something like -10! The skating rink ice was always at its best right around 0 degrees; I don't think school would have been canceled for temps unless the school pipes froze...speaking of which, all y'all in unexpectedly low temps, you do know how to protect your pipes I hope!

      Stay warm!

Here was the view from my bedroom this morning, about 32 when we woke up but about 40 now...

      • The glass just cracked in one of my kitchen windows, apparently due to the cold. And my garage door keeps sticking.

Eek! Is there any way to prevent this? Most of my windows are completely iced over on the inside. Should I turn up the heat?

              • They just cancelled school for tomorrow. Thankfully Dipshit can take them.

You're asking the wrong girl. I grew up in Florida! It's the only window we have that is not connected to our alarm system. It extends out from the kitchen with little shelves for potted herbs and such. I keep cookbooks on the shelf. I'm thinking that it is just more exposed than our other windows.

Haha Florida girl here too. Medicine's joke sending up to the tundra.

Maybe saran wrapping that window will prevent it from cracking more?

                      • Crazy thing is that in our last house, our kitchen window was broken in a hail storm. We lived with it that way for months! Our landlord never fixed it.

                        • It's -4 now. Not windchill. My house is making thumping noises. I'd imagine in its 100 years it has seen these temps before. I wish it would stop clunking though.
