It is still raining, and now hailing. Yipeee! While we need the rain, I would rather it not all come in one fell swoop!Kris

The news is scaring us back West with this "FrankenStorm" story that is scheduled to slam the North Eastern Coast over Halloween. It's the projected hurricane Sandy and the Artic Blast colliding over the region and they're estimating over one billion dollars worth of potential damage. I hope everyone is going to be alright!PGY4 Nephrology Fellow

Some part of me wonders if this is a hyped news story because Sweeps has started. In the situationers they explain that there are several possibilities for the projected path of this hurricane but they focus on the one that slams NE and give it the glorified name of "FrankenStorm"! Mwah ha ha! It's a case of you have to watch the TV or loads of people will die being without power in the winter and billions of dollars of damage will be done!
I hope it's really a case of the weather man is wrong because hurricanes are fickle and we've seen them do funny things like go back out to sea and do loops. The Arctic blast though is another thing. The winter conditions brought on by that this time of year are real.PGY4 Nephrology Fellow

Cinderella that is a really good point. I completely gave up on the weather channel when they started naming winter storms outside of the authority of the NWS. I'm only going to believe the NWS web it comes to this coming storm.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

Our neighbor does wiring for electric, and their whole section just got called out for two weeks to be there on the East Coast when the storm hits.

It probably goes without saying but ya, it still has to be taken seriously. Better to err on the side of caution.Last edited by Cinderella; 10-26-2012, 12:27 PM.PGY4 Nephrology Fellow

Back West here we're starting to see video of government officials from that region telling their people to take this storm seriously over the Halloween Weekend and citing the power outages of the 2011 storms. We're also seeing video of the power companies across the region preparing and communicating with the public about what their doing and what they advise their customers to do. Water, generators, supplies, ect. Do what you'd do to prepare for a winter storm and also a hurricane. Checklist for severe storm.
I just pulled a couple random links that generated when I did a search. There may be more specific lists for your area. Stay safe peeps!PGY4 Nephrology Fellow

Whoops, I started the Hurricane Sandy thread before I saw that this thread had taken a turn in that direction so I apologize if that caused more confusion! But yes, everyone stay safe! I think East Coast storms are hyped so much just because there are sooooooo many people in a much smaller are than say Florida and the Gulf Coast so the potential number of lives impacted is greater.Wife of a surgical fellow; Mom to a busy toddler girl and 5 furballs (2 cats, 3 dogs)
