    • 95% humidity this morning as I was working out. That made for a Interesting workout. And oh my..the hair. Curly hair and humidity. That is truly something!

          • Isn't central air AMAZING? I think everyone should live without it for a few years so they can fully appreciate it.

Hot here this week. But it's been relatively cool so far so I'm not complaining.

Yeah but I'm waiting for our electric bill, which I'm anticipating will be horrifying.

I haven't had central air for... 11 years? And I am so ready to. We're in a heat wave, and although I'm OK with being hot, DH isn't, so we've had the 2 window units running constantly. And the NOISE, OMG. I can't take it anymore. I'm done. So done with apartment living. Just 2 more years. Sigh...

What is this no central AC you speak of? I cannot imagine! BUT I am living in TX and grew up in FL.

                  • HUMID AS SHIT. AKA - the worst southeastern summer weather ever. But that's what mid-july to late August is all about. The kind of days where it's 94 degrees before 10am - but with the humidity it feels like 100+. The kind of days where a six block walk from your parking deck to your office makes you feel like you just got off the elliptical, sweat-wise. I haven't blow dried my hair since early June. There's just no point.

Central air is my BFF - our electricity went off for about an hour yesterday morning because the ground was super wet after a rain storm, I swear after about a half-hour it was already getting warm and sticky in our apartment. Oh, and it's so hot that my car's air conditioning doesn't even get to prime cold temps. It will blow nice and cold for a few minutes and then will blow warmer, slightly humid air in. WTF.

                      • We've gone the opposite way - going from central AC to being without. It's not too bad so far. We have a lot of mature trees that shade the house pretty well. I'm curious about the electric bill too. The window units aren't as efficient, but we mostly just use them at night and aren't trying to cool the entire house. I'm guessing the cost will end up being about the same.

                        • I wish I could figure out how to take the humidity out of the house without turning the AC on - if I could we'd save a ton of money. Our house is very well shaded (and now well insulated) I really think we could crank our AC temp way up if it wasn't so damn humid!

                          • Saw this the other day, and it all makes sense to me; not sure it would obviate the need for A/C completely, but a lot of these would certainly help: http://www.treehugger.com/slideshows...-conditioning/

                            • I seem to have forgotten how much it rains here. We've been here a bit over a month, and I think the number of days we've had rain is well over the number of days we haven't.

                              • I have had central air for all of 3 years of my adult life. (And that was in Phoenix. And we only turned it on in the summer. And set it to 80. And uphill both ways. )
