Isn't central air AMAZING? I think everyone should live without it for a few years so they can fully appreciate it.
Hot here this week. But it's been relatively cool so far so I'm not complaining.Angie

HUMID AS SHIT. AKA - the worst southeastern summer weather ever. But that's what mid-july to late August is all about. The kind of days where it's 94 degrees before 10am - but with the humidity it feels like 100+. The kind of days where a six block walk from your parking deck to your office makes you feel like you just got off the elliptical, sweat-wise. I haven't blow dried my hair since early June. There's just no point.Wife, support system, and partner-in-crime to PGY-3 (IM) and spoiler of our 11 y/o yellow lab

We've gone the opposite way - going from central AC to being without. It's not too bad so far. We have a lot of mature trees that shade the house pretty well. I'm curious about the electric bill too. The window units aren't as efficient, but we mostly just use them at night and aren't trying to cool the entire house. I'm guessing the cost will end up being about the same.

I wish I could figure out how to take the humidity out of the house without turning the AC on - if I could we'd save a ton of money. Our house is very well shaded (and now well insulated) I really think we could crank our AC temp way up if it wasn't so damn humid!Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

Saw this the other day, and it all makes sense to me; not sure it would obviate the need for A/C completely, but a lot of these would certainly help: http://www.treehugger.com/slideshows...-conditioning/Sandy

I seem to have forgotten how much it rains here. We've been here a bit over a month, and I think the number of days we've had rain is well over the number of days we haven't.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer
