  • I need to find my fitbit and charge it up again so I can join y'all.

I've been sticking with barre and want to add some dedicated cardio. We leave for CR in about 5.5 weeks. I'm noticing some good changes with barre, but I think some running and elliptical would help my new muscles show through a bit. A bunch of the different barre groups have their own code words for getting a toned ass. Pure Barre's is creating your "Pure Barre ledge." I was cooking in leggings the other day and DH walked into the kitchen and said, "You're Pure Barre precipice looks nice..."

      • Okay people, talk to me about Fitbits. What features do you consider worthwhile? What do you have that you don't use, what do you wish you had?

I feel like the pedometer on my phone is not terribly accurate and isn't tracking correctly.

All I need is for it to track steps and "active minutes". I like having a replaceable battery, because I feel like I'd screw up and leave it on the charger or something. I like that it's not on my wrist, so I avoid inaccuracies related to whether the arms are or aren't swinging. I did have to get in the habit of checking my pockets every time I change clothes, but now it's second nature! Yayay, hope you join us!

            • Spotty, you have the clip?
@HouseofWool I have the HR. You can click through the different trackers on the wristband by a button or tapping on the screen. It shows time, steps, heart rate, miles, calories burned, and stairs climbed, restarting every 24 hours. If you wear it at night it tracks your sleep which is really cool. I'll post a pic from my phone. The app allows you to track all the other fitness app type stuff like water, calories consumed, how much you should eat in a day, and any fitness goals. The wristband vibrates when you reach your step goal for the day. You can set alarms so it'll buzz in the morning, and apparently you can also have it go off when your phone rings! (I was at lunch with a friend and her's went off, I didn't even know about this feature. Her wristband said "sister" as her sister was calling)

The app also ranks your steps for the...week? Compared to your friends. And then there's challenges which track everyone's steps and functions like a chat room. It's a lot of fun! Totally a fad but I'm enjoying it.

~DH and I got home around the same time today. He said he def wanted to go to the gym and then fell asleep on the couch. I'm sitting here in my workout clothes thinking about how this is cutting into my margarita time!

                • Yep, the bare-bones Zip. It doesn't have all the features, but I haven't missed them.

                  • It's definitely shown me how sedentary I'm able to be. It wouldn't have even occurred to me to walk to lunch a mile away in 35 degree drizzle if it weren't for this thing.

I have the flex. In retrospect I probably would've gotten a clip-on one because I have a baby that I carry around and interact with a lot with my arms (patting on the back to sleep, etc) that can skew the steps up or down. Minus the baby thing, it seems to work well. If I'm know I'm going to be pushing the stroller for a while or something I'll take the tracker out of the wrist band and just stick it in my shoe to track more accurately. The only features I use are the step counts, distance, and active minutes. The flex will track your sleep too but I don't use that feature. I think it'd be cool to have the HR monitor but didn't want it enough to pay the extra $50

That's really the reason I got it. It's helped me to see just how much of a difference things like parking further away from the store entrance makes to my total amount of movement during the day. Days when think "eh, I don't really feel like going for a jog today" I can now counter that line of thinking since I've seen that even just a 20 minute jog can triple the total number of steps I take some days.

Exactly! So many times during the day I will find myself thinking, "Should I go do that thing now, or save the trip by combining it with something later?" (Walking down .1 mile to the mailbox, carrying the laundry up the stairs, etc.) Doing it now gets me the steps, *and* gets the stuff done before it piles up too badly. Win-win!

                          • I finally decided to do something about my weight again. I am at my highest weight ever. I started Nutrisystem last week. I lost 3 pounds but regained .8 after enjoying a small dessert last night at card club. Oh well.

For me in the past, losing weight really was just about eating right and exercising. I am slowly getting the hang of eating less. Now I have to start walking again. It's cold out, so that's my excuse. Amanda has an elliptical, so I'll probably try that.

Anyway, I'm done beating up on myself for weight gain, and I'm trying again.
