I'm so sorry about your aunt. Hope your rescheduling turned out ok, and that your trip goes well. Idk how you've managed to go back paleo at the same time with all this going on, you're incredible!

Always better to train with someone, especially when training becomes competitive! What's your target time on half? My PB is 1:45 but who knows how close I'll get.

          Haha precisely!
This will be my third Brooklyn half. First year I did 2:17 or 10:30 pace, second 2:04 or 9:32 pace. Have to break that 2 hour mark! I'm just going to shoot for 9 minute mile pace at best. I don't think I'll ever match your pace!!!

          • Sigh. Went to the gym today. Made it 10 minutes on the elliptical before the child care people had to page me because DD had spent the entire time bawling her eyes out. Separation anxiety sucks. At least it's a pretty day outside today so I can get a jog in after lunch.

If anyone has any brilliant ideas to help DD acclimate faster I'm all ears. I know part of it is just waiting it out (she's 9 months, peak freak out time). I suspect I'll just have to go for a couple weeks with zero expectation I'll get to spend any time on a machine.

            • Was she crying when you left her, or did she start freaking out after you were gone?

She was quiet when I left but she was distracted by a toy, I don't think she really realized I'd left. Apparently she only lasted a couple of minutes, so the novelty of the toys wore off quickly.

ETA: she was fine as soon as I came back and held her too. We sat in there for 15-20min afterwards and played with toys and she was totally fine. She doesn't seem wary of the room itself, she just wants me to be there.

                • 2 miles of speedwork yesterday, and shaved the mile down to 10:15! Pretty happy with it, but that was without the stroller. 😅

Registered for a pirate-themed 5k with DS2 -- we're making a weekend trip out of it, while DH & DS1 fly out to visit my ILs.

It's my first official 5K race in 2ish years (Nov 2013), and I'm excited. This will be my first race pushing a kiddo in a stroller, but I train with him in the stroller during the week, so it shouldn't be a huge shock.

That weekend won't just be the race, either: going to see some good friends and bring them a papaya tree sapling as a housewarming present as well.

Super exciting! That's great that you can make it into a trip. I'm jealous of your housewarming gift!

Update: DD stayed in the childcare room 20 min today!! She cried a bit in the middle but the caretaker was able to calm her back down and then she'd started kinda loosing it about 1 min before I came back. At least it was long enough for me to break a sweat this time! The caretaker today was a woman and I think that helped -- it was a guy last time, she's just more comfortable around women.

3 miles in today - DS2 lost his shoe, but we found it.

                        • Husband hadn't taken a rest day in over 10 days, had in fact ridden 21.5 hours in the last 7 days, so he took a break today and just hiked 5 miles with me instead.

                          • Ran 3 miles today, then realized I'd lost my van key somewhere on the trail. I walked past where I thought it might have fallen, but no luck. Guess that's motivation to get back out there tomorrow...
