What a great read! I feel like I've seen articles like this in the past but wasn't quite ready to read it until now. Of course I way more than 5 lbs overweight but yes, I have long since fallen into the obsession with shedding pounds. All week I've sort of toyed with the idea that I've been trying to get down to a weight for whatever reason my body doesn't want to be at. It's scary. The women in my family are obese and I know as I grow older it will be harder to lose. But who cares. I have a husband, friends, and colleagues who accept and respect me the way I am. I'd rather someone like me because of my mind any day. That's what I'm focusing on. And thanks for the love, guys. Maybe I'll eat my way into a size 2

Great job, LM!! I ran for 20 minutes the other day then switched to Arc. I don't know that I'll ever enjoy it!

      • Forced a good slow pace on today's run with my training buddy. She tends to go faster than the slow run pace on our training plan.

I'm doing a bit of reading on the importance of training at different paces as my Berlin Half marathon is 16 wks away and the training kicks in properly next week.

        • Yes, when I trained for my half marathon I was so impressed by my steady improvement in speed and endurance, just by following a good program that varied volume and intensity. I definitely find it tough to go slow enough for a "conversational" pace on long runs! But since I'm not training for crazy distance any more, I just tell myself that the Kenyans do most of their training at a "tempo" pace so it's okay to push myself a little.

          • Yesterday I grabbed an hour, and today the weather cooperated so DS2 and I nabbed a 3 mile brisk walk.

Tomorrow is another hour of HIIT/body weight/light jogging class.

Do you go to a gym for the HIIT or videos at home?

Joining the gym 5 minute walk away was brilliant. Especially with the holiday season. I haven't been able to make a single one of my yoga classes since Thanksgiving. If I'd stayed at Gold's I would've had to drive / valet which I know I wouldn't have done this season. So I've been working out nearly every day! Cardio + strength usually before work.

Paleo-ish. I got some cheese as a cheat last weekend and since we didn't eat all of it I've had more of it this week. Apparently potatoes aren't paleo even though sweet potatoes are, and their nutrients are about the same. I read one place that the reasoning is there are so many unhealthy potato foods they just say stay away. So I'm trying to nix potatoes. I've been eating peanut butter nearly every day, which is not approved. I think it's kind of stupid they say it releases a toxin...maybe I'll nix it just because I've been putting some raw honey in there

still not weighing / counting calories. Feeling good and am thinking my next round of goals will be purely by looking in the mirror. Long term, subjective. So I can't look at the scale and get discouraged.

              • Ran with a friend today. We went pretty slow and walked some, but it was fun to have some time talk while getting exercise in.

                • MAPPLEBUM, I do a group fitness class and have a membership. We're mostly outdoors and use a lot of body weight exercises/resistance bands/HIIT. It works for me and where I'm at in this stage of life, so I'll probably keep doing it until all my kids are in primary school.

However, I am upping the benefits and have asked Santa for a TRX Pro system for Christmas. My current location only offers class 3x a week and I need 5x a week for mental health and well-being.

                  • I did my 3rd OrangeTheory class yesterday and signed up for the half class this week. It starts Dec 19! I. January I'll be doing OT Mon Wed and some Sunday's and the running class Tues/Thurs/long run Sat. I'm probably going to die at first but I've missed working out so much. I feel so good after a class.

Except for ab work. That isn't pretty right now.

I just looked up orange theory -- those looks like great work outs! I wish they had one of those in my neighborhood!

                      • An OrangeTheory is opening in my neighborhood and I just signed up this week. I'm super excited to try it. I remembered we had a fan here and that helped me pull the trigger.

Be nice to your poor abs. If you had any diastasis, stick to straight sit-ups for a while, nothing that torques the connection to the linea alba...don't even get out of bed sideways, push yourself vertical with your arms and THEN stand! Or so I've heard...my poor abs weren't quite right for years after I birthed my last babe.

Thirteen, how are you feeling on your plant-based diet, and how easy is it to make meals? My library copy of Proteinaholic was due before I could do more than skim it, but I liked what I saw enough to go ahead and buy an e-book for myself. I hope to get around to reading it soon...in the meantime I am being less cheaty about my VB6. But I feel like a next step will be to explore more interesting options for vegan meals, and maybe serve them more often when it's just me and the kids for dinner -- two of their favorite meals are fried tofu, and my cobbled-up chickpea dal, so we just need to keep exploring for more yummy ideas like that.

I just looked and my weight has held steady within a range of 2-3 pounds for the last eight months! It feels good just to live a lifestyle that I know is good for my heart, and to let my weight follow suit without fighting it. I have found that now that I'm not running (icky weather) it helps to get a little more strict about processed vs. whole foods, and focus more on the veggies. But otherwise, I'm just working on getting my Fitbit steps each day...

                          • OrangeTheory is awesome. I regularly burn 5-600 calories a class. The great thing is you can have someone so out of shape like me next to a super athlete and you are both working hard at your own level. The coaches are great and it goes by really fast and doesn't get boring. I improved so much in the 4 months I did it pre baby. Actually it helped my diastasis recti post Jason a ton. It is nearly as bad after this baby.
