  • Want to know the kicker? I *knew* my doors were unlocked.

I was lying in bed last night around 1, unable to sleep and I had gotten up to pee and look out the windows (because I'm a paranoid wuss). I got back in bed this was literally my train of thought:
    "Ugh, my car is unlocked."
"Should I get up and get my keys and lock it? No, I'm not getting up."
"There's nothing in there - literally nothing. If someone broke in I hope they don't take that awesome umbrella I found in the parking deck."
"What am I thinking? No one's going to get in my car, that doesn't happen here."

So imagine how FREAKED out I was when I got into my drivers seat, looked over and saw my passenger side had been trashed and my glove compartment/console emptied. I immediately jumped out, checked under all the seats, in the back, under the car, etc. It was just so unsettling to think someone had been in there just a few yards away.

I feel confident that it was just teenagers walking around in the middle of the night (TBH: I had a "bad boy" boyfriend in HS who used to wander around his upper middle class neighborhood with a friend trying people's door handles, stealing change). It's not like they broke a window and tried to drive off.

Just goes to show: I can kinda sorta tell the future.

    • Scary WPW!!!!

Third day of kindergarten third change in drop-off/pick-up procedures. I really am trying to withhold judgement, I really am but these folks are making it so very hard. And they can't seem to figure out why there are so many kids crying at drop-off? Thank God this is kid number 5 and I don't feel intimidated by the school

      • WPW, that happened to me a few years ago! It was super creepy, but nothing was taken, thankfully!

        • I'm so sorry, WPW. My car was broken into when DH was in medical school, and I was so freaked out. I called in sick that day, and I hated touching my steering wheel and seats for weeks, knowing he probably touched it. It really is a violation into your life, even without taking things.

                  • I don't ask hubby to do a lot around the house, because I'm home a lot more than him, and we hire out a lot of help. I do ask him to empty the dishwasher so I can load it. It needs to be run at least every other night, because I have 2 sets of pump parts. I asked him the other day if he could check the dishwasher every night before he went to bed, and if it was clean, if he could empty it. Otherwise, I end up emptying it so that I can load it before I go to bed - you know, after I've pumped and made up E's bottles and food for the next day. He did it one night. He missed last night, but I let it slide since I had run it 2 nights in a row and had clean pump parts for today. He missed it again tonight. I know he's been working a lot, but acts of service is my love language, and when he can't find time to do the smallest things, it really frustrates me.

                    • E is still asleep (well, back asleep after her 5am feed/playtime with Daddy). I'm awake because hubby texted me an hour ago and woke me up, and I was sure she'd wake up soon. I think we're going to go get DD when she wakes up.

                        • And now I've got a sick cat who needs to see a vet, which we never really got around to choosing, and I'm home alone with a napping baby, with a baby shower to attend at 2 45 minutes away.

                          • Been in the Bay area since Wednesday and staying another night BC travel companion is being unreasonable. I knew going into this that she doesn't work well with others but didn't expect to get in our first fight before we even hit the road. She doesn't want to pick me up at "some random Bart station in Oakland" so is demanding it makes perfect sense I take a 45 minute train south even though we'll be turning around driving right passed where I currently am. This was supposed to be a road trip and I haven't even gotten her to leave her home town yet. At this rate if she doesn't start playing fair... By tomorrow... I'm going to have to get my stuff from her, rent a car, and do this trip on my own.

Why? Some of the Oakland BART stations are really nice! Rockridge comes to mind. There are just a few I wouldn't recommend during the middle of the night, but even those are fine during the day.

ETA: Actually, go to Rockridge and about a block or so down College is Bittersweet Chocolate Cafe. Delicious.
